In my opinion, BEST canteen in NTU. Caifan, Japanese, Szechuan stalls are all delicious and worth the price. I highly recommend the following: 1. Laziji at Szechuan stall 2. Karaage curry rice at Japanese stall 3. Fish or sweet sour pork at Caifan stall 4. Fried dumplings at Chinese noodle stall
View on GoogleSichuan Mei Shi is one of the busiest stall within this canteen. The other being mixed veg rice. A self order system with a big selection of menu available. Since it is loosely translated into English, it can be confusing. Boiled chicken (what it is called here) is essentially 口水鸡 was excellent. The chicken was served on top of cold cucumber and the accompanying sauce was appetizing. Mapo tofu is another Sichuan dish. Though the numbness (麻) is toned down, the bean sauce was fragrant and went well with steamed rice. Double cooked pork aka 回锅肉 was disappointing as the pork belly were overcooked. The onion was surprisingly sweet. For a canteen stall, this is beyond my expectations, both in taste and value.
View on GoogleOne of the better Hall canteen in NTU. Slightly stuffy when crowded. Always came here only for the Si Chuan stall. Food quite nice but slightly oily. The vendor forever black face.
View on GoogleOngoing Post Hearsay the waffle are good Crisp outer fluffly soft inner Tonkotsu Ramen($4.50) Al dente noodles in flavouresome broth. Serve with spring onion, black fungus and smokey chewy firm meat. Their cai fan always long queue yet to try Mixed Rice($3) Curry Chicken😋 - Loved it. Had a nostalgic flavour. Chicken were tender and had absorbed the curry well. Potato had the right thickness cut and was cooked thoroughly. Steamed Egg👍 - Soft, silky, smooth, wobbly, dissolved in the mouth, light & savoury. Tofu😕 - The colour doesn't define to what I had in mind. Expected to be a little salty & moderate spicy but it turns out mild spicy and sweet. Contrasting to what you think it should taste like. Overall, its great but I can't say is the best as there are still many dishes I yet to try. Plus some dishes were serve cold.
View on GoogleCanteen 11! The 4 star is probably for the mixed rice store only for its abundance of options, economical pricing and very friendly store owners. Honestly the only store that has consistently queuing patrons, lunch time is really not the time to go. If u would like to avoid crowds, before 12pm or after 1.30pm would be the best. The lunch time queue is usually 10-15 mins long though I have queue longer up to 20-25 before.
