A Hot Hideout at Junction 10 has become my go-to "secret hideout" whenever I need good food and some quiet me-time. Today, I visited their NTU branch for the first time, and I am thrilled to report that the food quality is just as good here! I ordered my usual Mala Stir Fry. The texture of the noodles was perfectly springy, and the seasoning was deeply flavourful, carrying that familiar, well-balanced mala kick without being overly numbing. The bowl was loaded with fresh ingredients, including tender pork slices, sweet potato starch sheets etc. and a generous heap of fresh coriander and peanuts. We also paired it with a side of fried luncheon meat and fried otah cheese. The campus stall has a comfortable, clean setting, and the kitchen team prepares everything with great care. It is wonderful to know I can get the exact same customisable flavours closer to this side of Singapore. Definitely an easy 5 stars!
View on Google🌶️🍲 TGIF! Lunch at A Hot Hideout @ NTU – Mala hotpot! 😋 My colleagues jio-ed me for lunch at this popular mala hotpot spot in NTU campus. It's a short walk from the canteen and was already packed when we arrived—we waited about 10 minutes for an outdoor table. We tried the fried lotus root and fried potato slices, and my tip is to enjoy them immediately while they're hot and crispy. Once they cool down, they lose a bit of that "WOW" factor. The mala here is nicely localized to suit Singaporean tastes—flavorful, fragrant, and not overly numbing. What really surprised me was the scrambled egg topping up on the Mala hotpot and “Green Tarik drink”. Highly recommended! The refreshing drink paired perfectly with the spicy mala, making every bite extra shiok. 🧋🔥 Great food, good company, and a satisfying way to kick off the weekend. No wonder this place is always crowded!
View on GoogleWent there with my colleagues as one of them recommended this place. Overall, a great spot for mala dinner! The lotus root chips are my absolute favourite, and the fried items are placed in a separate bowl so they remain crispy, which is a nice touch. Pricing is generally reasonable as most items are charged at a flat rate regardless of what you pick. However, do take note that if you plan to order the lotus root and potato chips, they are calculated by weight and can add up quite a bit to the total bill. For spicy lovers, their medium spicy is already quite hot for me. My colleague ordered the max spicy level, and that was seriously fiery. Overall, the food tastes great and I would highly recommend it!
View on GoogleOne of the best malanin SG if U ask me... The deep fried lotus roots were good too, and although I didn't wanna fry my potatoes at first, it turns out decent, just like potato chips. The spiciness of the mala was just nice as well so taste wise, I would easily give a 5 stars. BUT... and a big one... It cost $42 for 2 pax! Most expensive mala ever... True that I accidentally got a slightly heavier lotus root... But still at $3plus (3.50?) per 100g, and same for both meat and vege, my deep fried lotus roots turns out to be about $20. Scary... Just for the price alone, I won't be back again. But of course if U happen to stay or study nearby, then it probably makes sense still. Just beware of the heavier items, esp the non meat ones.
View on GoogleLove this restaurant! The food is delicious, and the service is quick and friendly. Prices are reasonable, and there’s a great variety on the menu. I especially love how they fry the fish slices, luncheon meat, and mantaus — perfectly crispy! We accidentally spilled a drink, and the staff immediately helped us move to another table and even replaced the drink (I only realized afterward, right after I bought another one) — really thoughtful service!
