The Clementi Road Railway Tunnel can be reached by going down the slope behind the busstop (east side of Clementi Rd) opposite the Brookvale Drive junction. The slope is rather steep but doable for reasonably fit people. The entrance to the tunnel is more overgrown now compared to a few years back. The ground can be wet and muddy, especially after rain. Westwards, the tunnel leads to a trail along the edge of Maju Forest. With the recent debate the past few weeks about saving Maju Forest, this trail has been well-trodden recently and is passable all the way to Sunset Way, though there are a few fallen trees across the trail, which largely follows the old Jurong Line railway track. The Jurong railway stopped operating since 1992.
View on GoogleAbout: The Clementi Road Railway Tunnel, located behind the bus stop opposite Maju Camp, is a remnant of the 20km-long Jurong Railway Line constructed in the early 1960s to connect industrial sites to the main rail line. It signifies a forgotten era of industrial development and is currently an abandoned, popular hiking spot. Getting There: As of APRIL 2026, the entrance into the tunnel is on the ESATERN SIDE of Clementi Road, opposite the intersection of BROOKVALE and CLEMENTI ROADS (right behind the bus stop called OPPOSITE MAJU CAMP). From the bus stop, a small trail takes you down a grassy slope to the old railway line. The tunnel entrance is only a few meters from the point where the trail meets the railway line. There’s some foliage to push through before arriving at the tunnel entrance. The tunnel is approximately 70 METERS in length and exits into the MAJU FOREST AREA. Maju Forest: The rail line continues through a gulley in MAJU FOREST which is enshrouded in thick foliage and covered by FALLEN TREES. Approximately 150 meters beyond the WESTERN END of the railway tunnel, there’s a JUNGLE TRAIL which leads up the RIGHT HAND side of the gulley, and into the forest. Note: This trail is barely recognizable, apart from one strip of marker tape a few meters up the slope. Forest Hiking: Various information sources suggest there’s a trail which leads back to SUNSET WAY. If so, it is POORLY MARKED and a NOT DEVELOPED TRAIL. Previous hikers have left strips of HAZARD TAPE (red and white) through the forest, but these are spaced far apart and often hard to follow. If you’re going into this forest, take a compass, and wear full coverage because there’s NO CLEARLY DEFINED TRAIL. For the most part you’ll be pushing your way through thick foliage with no clear direction. Safe travels, Mega.
View on GoogleTrail was muddy but it's a fun hiking experience. Remember to wear Trail Running Shoes for better traction
View on GoogleWe weren't prepared for deep mud. To those who wanna visit this tunnel, it's situated down slope behind the maju camp busstop. Because it's gravel steps, I strongly suggest u guys to wear hiking shoes. The walk inside the jungle can be challenging, with u needing to bend, squat, do that zero point action when u wanna cross the logs. We saw a group wearing phua chu kang yellow boots. If u don't mind the comfort, then honestly, pls bring the boots along because it is very muddy, with alot of red ants. The whole walk from the maju camp busstop to sunset way is about 40mins. There are many dead logs that you need to figure out how to cross. The mud makes it challenging. Once you get into the mud, it does sink you whole feet it so just be careful.
View on GoogleA very unique and nice tunnel that hardly be seen in Singapore, now that the tunnel is abandoned with train no longer passing through, it had became a place for Instagram photo shoots... for easy access, just walk down the bus shelter directly opposite Maju Camp along Clementi Road. The nearest carpark would be the Sunset Way HDB estate ahead!
