New Nyonya Find at The Rail Mall - Chilli Padi Tok Panjang 🌶️ Came to the newly opened Chilli Padi Tok Panjang at The Rail Mall to try their Peranakan/Nyonya food, and overall we had a very enjoyable meal. The Assam Pedas Fish Head was one of the highlights - tangy, spicy and packed with flavour, with brinjal, okra and tomatoes soaking up that delicious gravy. Definitely a dish that calls for extra rice! I particularly enjoyed the pork stomach soup. The broth was rich, comforting and full of flavour, with tender pieces of pork stomach giving it that familiar homely taste. One of the dishes I enjoyed most during the meal. The Ayam Buah Keluak was decent, with its distinctive earthy and slightly bitter richness. The sambal okra was nicely cooked with a good spicy kick while retaining its texture. The chicken satay was another enjoyable dish - nicely grilled with some char on the outside while remaining juicy and tender, paired with a rich peanut sauce, ketupat, cucumber and onions. The only disappointment was the Chap Chye. The preserved beancurd flavour was too strong for my liking and left a rather bitter aftertaste, overpowering the natural sweetness of the vegetables. Overall, Chilli Padi Tok Panjang is a promising new addition to The Rail Mall. Good, hearty Nyonya flavours at reasonable prices, with the Assam fish head, pork stomach soup and chicken satay being my favourites from this visit. Definitely worth coming back to try more! 🌶️🍚🐟🍢

This is the kind of lunch spot that brings people together. Somewhere different from your usual mall food but not too extravagant that isn’t family budget friendly. The price point and value sits perfectly between everyday and slightly more than your average lunch. As a result, it was empty at 12pm but every table was reserved on a Saturday afternoon. It was packed by 1230pm, with even a private room within the restaurant. Service was attentive and efficient, the interior modern yet nostalgic with SQ kebaya design on the walls, something that’s quintessentially tied to the heritage. For a family of 4 big eaters, we ordered a wide variety of food to share and everything came up so fast pretty much because yes it is pre cooked but still didn’t fall short of it being fresh and tasty. Nothing was over seasoned or oily, so it felt homely and comforting. Both the soups we ordered was so well done and the meat was definitely not an afterthought, it was tender and flavorful. This carried on to the beef tender as well, which wasn’t too spicy and well marinated as the flavors were well permeated into the meat itself. The fried Hokkien mee was good but not amazing if I can say so myself as a self proclaimed Hokkien mee connoisseur, perhaps overshadowed by the many other good dishes. The chap chye is a classic while expensive for the ingredients it’s something that makes a Peranakan meal feel incomplete without having it. As someone who grew up having my mum’s ngoh hiang every year during Chinese new year, the one here doesn’t hit the spot but by no means is it a bad item. Last by not least the Assam curry fish head ties everything together as what can you not like about something spicy and tangy. We ended off the meal with a touch of elegance with their beautifully designed kuehs along with the beautiful cutleries. Honestly, the experience of having the kuehs using dainty cutleries was the highlight rather than the kuehs itself. An extremely satisfying meal which is not just good but great to bond over.

25/7/27, book the place for 4, no waiting straight to the table and the waiter serve cold glass of water; no chance for refill. We order 7 dishes, we like the Nonya prawn noodle the most; hot and good. All the dishes are nice and good. We order 2 soup which can be better each $20/- we like the Assam fish head, Chap chye but beef rendang and especially Ngoh Hiang can be better. The chendol is ok but Kueh can be better. The service can be better like maybe add more water for us or ON more air conditioning especially after the hot meal chances all over get warm. The atmosphere is well decor, it makes a feel of place to be. Clean & tidy. You feel welcome. Overall is good to have lunch, pricing slightly on the high side but since this is the first time we try it can be better. If you want a good meal and like spicy stuff this is a good place to be. Food is good but not the wow great place. Will we try again, definitely a big YES.

Visited Chilli Padi Tok Panjang at The Rail Mall for the first time and had a wonderful dining experience. We started with their homemade atchar, which was crunchy, tangy, and a great appetiser. We tried several of their outlet-exclusive dishes, including the Jumbo Chicken Satay, Nonya Pig Stomach Soup, Braised Nonya Chap Chye, Nonya Prawn Mee, and Claypot Beef Rendang Fried Rice. My favourites were the tender and flavourful Chicken Satay, the well-seasoned Chap Chye, and the Nonya Prawn Mee with belacan chilli, which reminded me of a delicious dry laksa. I especially liked that many of the dishes were served in claypots, keeping the food warm throughout the meal. The menu offers a wide variety of authentic Peranakan dishes at reasonable prices, making it a great place for family gatherings or meals with friends. To end the meal, we had the Chendol, which was refreshing and not overly sweet. They have Durian or Chempetek topping too. Overall, the food was tasty, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was good. Definitely worth a visit if you’re craving authentic Peranakan cuisine. Few minutes walk away from Hillview Mrt station

New Nyonya restaurant in the quietest corner of Railway Mall. Very busy restaurant and the staff seems to be overwhelmed. Quite hard to get the attention of any one of them for service. They are always shuttling between the kitchen and tables. Maybe give them some time and they will get better. Food is not bad. We had a Prawn Mee (which essentially is almost like Hokkien Mee), a bowl of meat ball soup and satay. Although the noodles are served in a claypot, it is more of an accessory instead of the cooking method. This is judged from the very clean interior and exterior of the claypot which did not show any blemishes from cooking over fire. Nonetheless, the noodle is still very good. Just give it some time for the broth to be soaked by the noodles and it really is better than some of the HKM out there. Price is not cheap. I think a family of 4 can easily spend above $120 for a meal here.
