Ordered takeaway half steamed chicken ($19.50) with additional braised eggs ($0.80 each), liver ($1), and gizzard ($1). Came on a public holiday just before the lunch crowd, so luckily didn’t have to wait long. The rice was good and fragrant. The chicken, however, was a bit inconsistent, some parts were quite dry. The sauce poured over the chicken was more of a gravy consistency rather than the traditional mix of soy sauce, sesame oil, and chicken stock. Tasted a bit like oyster sauce, though personally I still prefer the traditional style. The chilli also had a slight sourness to it that tasted a bit off, not the vinegary kind. Overall it was okay. Taste is subjective though, and I’d still recommend giving it a try, maybe you’ll enjoy it more than I did.
View on GoogleI arrived at 11.05am and there's no queue yet but there's some people with huge orders of 20 packs, 30 packs, and this shows how popular they are. Anyway I ordered a steamed chicken rice with add on braised egg. The rice looks brown colour but there's no fragrance to it. Chicken is thick cut and tender, bone was removed too. There's also bean sprout and it was soft and nice too. Overall it's a good chicken rice stall that everyone should try too.
View on GoogleI ordered steam chicken. Chicken itself is still alright, tender enough. Rice was meh, feel like the rice was cook with a ready-pack sauce and fake taste. Soup is just with pepper taste. Chili sauce probably mass produce and taste more like kway chap kind.
View on GoogleShi Mei serves the best roast chicken that I’ve ever had. So tender and yet flavourful, it has the texture of poached chicken, and the umami flavour of roasted chicken. The poached chicken that I had on an earlier occasion was also good, and I loved how the sauce accentuated the chicken rice.
View on GoogleBeen living in this neighbourhood for over twenty years and my elderly parent was utterly disrespected today. After ordering his lunch, he waited over 30 minutes while other diners walked in, took away their orders and some even finished their meal while he was still waiting for his food. Apparently, the lady assumed that the takeout box (that was already with him when he arrived at the shop) was his order from Shi Mei. She had the audacity to open up my sibling's lunch to check. (It was cai png from a nearby shop that we always order from). Luckily for Shi Mei, he wasn't angry and was in one of his better mood today. If not, this store will never hear the end of him. This review is a suggestion for the owners to check on the wellbeing of the staff and not to assume my father is out to cheat them. We have been loyal patrons at Shi Mei for two decades and never had any issue with them (Feel free to refer to surveillance videos dated on 17 April 2026 afternoon if you like). With the steady increase in prices over the years, you can do better to treat the elderly with respect. You are operating in an aging estate and shouldn't take the kindness and patience of others for granted.
