During our cycling expedition around the northern region with our friends, Kitty and I decided to stop for lunch at Zi Zai Vegetarian in Yishun. As one of our companions is a vegetarian, she was incredibly enthusiastic about recommending this restaurant to the group. The timing of our visit was particularly apt, as it coincided with the extended Vesak Day holiday, and opting for a vegetarian meal provided a perfect conclusion to the festivities. We were delighted to share this meal with our friend and her husband, and we found the quality of the cuisine to be exceptional. We took advantage of a promotion where ordering three main dishes, excluding rice and noodles, entitles guests to a complimentary dish, which was the Small Kailan. Our selection included the Minced Meat Omelette and the Signature Claypot Fish Soup, which featured a pleasant hint of Dang Gui and was served piping hot. The Creamy Hericium, prepared in a buttermilk style, was fantastic, and we also thoroughly enjoyed the vegetarian Mala Xiang Guo with added Maggi noodles. Kitty was especially impressed with the Olive Fried Rice, which was savoury and aromatic. The ambience of the restaurant was very pleasant, providing a cool and comfortable environment to escape the heat. While the service was slightly slow, the staff remained professional and attentive. When we mentioned that the crackers served with the Olive rice were soft, the waiter promptly replaced them with a crispier version, which was a very thoughtful touch. To accompany our meal, we enjoyed the Grass Jelly and the German made Black Malt drink, which offered a unique carbonated herbal tea flavour. Despite the minor delay in service, Kitty and I truly enjoyed our experience and highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking high quality vegetarian food.

We ordered egg prata, sweet and sour pork, mutton curry, hot plate tofu. Wasn’t very long wait. Food was delicious.

Always loved zizai’s Hokkien mee but feel like its standard dropped. No Wokhey taste at all and super watery + tasteless. Prata still good as usual, crispy!

Small and busy eatery. Be prepared to wait for your food. Love its selection and we prefer to get dishes to go with rice but we definitely need a big crowd in order to be able to try more dishes. Do give their prata and mala a try! We like that the fried rice dishes come with a small bowl of soup. The soup is really flavourful.
