Definitely one of the last few standing vintage bakery in SG that sells traditional buns that were made and taste from the 90s. Reasonably priced in today's otherwise overpriced market. Highly recommended
View on GoogleBuns @ Serangoon Garden Bakery & Confectionery. . Founded in the 1970s, the Serangoon Garden Bakery & Confectionery is a beloved old-school bakery that has been serving customers freshly baked bread for over 4 decades. . Ambience is shared with the rest of the Serangoon Garden Market hawker centre, which as far as things go, is clean, brightly lit, windy, and comfortable, with a bustling atmosphere. Expect a constantly-long but fast-moving queue at the storefront, as the aroma of freshly baked bread perfumes the surrounding space. Note it's pure takeaway only. . Service is fast and efficient. Staff are brusque, working quickly to pick and pack each order of buns, yelling out "再来 / zài lái / come again!" constantly until the customer stops ordering. The bread display is cleared labelled, so product knowledge is focused on when the next batch of buns will be ready as they quickly sell out each fresh tray. . Food is Singaporean style bread and buns, all made fresh throughout the day, as each tray typically sells out quickly once it's carried out from the on-site ovens. There's a total of 17 different varieties of breads, each with a unique filling. Portions are sized for individuals, most people eat 1 or 2 buns at a go. Prices are affordable, budget about SGD $4 per person.
View on GoogleIf you are a fan of old-school Singaporean bakes, the Banana Cake from Serangoon Garden Bakery & Confectionery is a nostalgic masterpiece that proves you don't need fancy frosting to stand out. Located in the heart of Serangoon Garden Market, this stall is a time capsule of traditional baking, and their banana cake remains one of their most sought-after items for good reason. 🍌 The Star of the Show: The Texture & Taste While many modern banana breads can be dense or overly oily, this confectionery hits the "golden ratio" of traditional sponge cake. • Incredibly Moist: The first thing you notice is the crumb. It is remarkably moist and tender, holding its shape without being crumbly or dry. It has that signature "springy" feel that only traditional local bakeries seem to master. • Deeply Flavourful: This isn't just a yellow sponge with a hint of essence. You can taste the intensity of real, over-ripe bananas. It is flavourful and fragrant, with a natural sweetness that lingers on the palate rather than hitting you with a sugar rush. 🥧 The "Old-School" Charm There is something uniquely comforting about the way they bake. • The Crust: The top of the cake has a slightly darker, caramelized "skin" that adds a wonderful depth to the overall flavor profile. • Budget-Friendly: Despite its high quality, it remains incredibly affordable, staying true to its roots as a neighborhood staple.
View on GoogleMy daughter and I used to love the luncheon meat bun but sadly it is not as nice as before. Luncheon meat became thin and hard. Last time it was thick and soft.
View on GoogleI was in the area for lunch and stumbled upon an old school bakery selling a variety of bread. I bought some and tried them. The curry bread was not too spicy, and the red bean bread was not too sweet - perfect for me. However, it would be better if they put in more fillings. The peanut bread was good, with lots of fillings. The banana cake, cream puff, etc. were good too.
