The food here was generally quite good. My favourite was the BBQ pork belly, which was tender with a good meat-to-fat ratio. The BBQ beef short ribs were decent too, though I found them slightly on the tougher, more rubbery side. There was a good variety of side dishes, but I do wish the portions were a little more generous. The servings for the banchan, as well as the lettuce, garlic, and chilli for the wraps, were quite small, so we had to keep asking the staff for refills. That said, the lady boss was incredibly warm and friendly, and she seemed to know many of her regular customers well, which gave the place a welcoming, neighbourhood feel. Overall, I’d still recommend giving this place a try if you’re looking for authentic Korean food.

Back at Hanwoori Korean Restaurant, one of the longest-running Korean eateries in our Serangoon Garden neighbourhood, helmed for over 15 years by the ever-effervescent Ms Kim — no small feat in Singapore’s fiercely competitive dining scene. It’s the kind of place many residents have grown up with, returning time and again for comforting food and familiar hospitality. Had an enjoyable dinner with smoky BBQ pork collar and juicy medium-rare sirloin beef fresh off the grill, paired perfectly with a milky makgeolli. The generous spread of banchan was as satisfying as ever, and we ended on a high note with a fiery bowl of kimchi ramen that delivered plenty of warmth and flavour. Hanwoori is one of those neighbourhood gems that makes you feel welcome every visit — authentic Korean fare, efficient service, and heartfelt hospitality from Ms Kim that keeps regulars coming back
