I recently stopped by Penang Heritage for a meal, and it was a bit of a mixed bag to be honest. The highlight for me was definitely the prawn paste chicken; it was fried well, had a nice crunch, and that distinct savory flavor was actually quite good. However, the rest of the dishes we ordered were just so-so and didn't really leave much of an impression. I was particularly disappointed with the hot plate bean curd—the sauce lacked depth and the texture just wasn't quite right, so I wouldn't recommend that one. It’s a decent enough place if you’re already in the area and just want a quick, simple bite, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again given how average most of the menu felt.

❤️ More food sharing IG @ jkgourmets 😋 更多的美食分享在 IG @ jkgourmets Was craving for some authentic local Chinese cuisines. Found this interesting restaurant tucked at the Sengkang housing area. Decided to try after seeing customers great reviews and attractive food images. Yes. It was a good try. As first timer, I'm attracted by the fish head cuisines, choosing their popular signature Nyonya Assam Fish Head. Although not as authentic as Penang Nyonya Assam taste and flavours. But truly, it was a delicious fish head with flavourful and yet not too spicy. Fish head was a quite a large one, it was fresh and very well cooked. Ingredients include lots of vegetables, even taking away, the fish meat was not over cooked after 20+min, still in great soft texture and flavours. Price at $35 per fish head. Perhaps slightly higher than usual zhi-cha stall but with that portion and quantity, definitely worth it. Take away too a pack of sweet and sour pork rice with fried egg. It was delicious and flavourful. Big portion, charging at $7.50 was worthy ordered. Although not many customers during my visit, which si around 645pm. But with such great taste, believe it will full house during peak meal hours. For such good flavours, I will definitely come back. Highly recommended all to try. *Another day of my visit on Apr 2026. This time I tried their popular Penang Char-Kway-Teow ($8.80). Honestly speaking, it was the closed to the Malaysia original taste. Full of wok-hey, prawns was fresh, moist and delicious. The overall taste was really good. Cockles and Chinese sausage is included which that sum what we ask for as a authentic Malaysia style Char-Kway-Teow. Another popular one was the Assam Laksa ($6.80), taste and flavours was very close to the original Penang delights. Just the noodle was slightly different, and spices can be more but fortunately flavour is there. We also greedy taste their another popular dishes, Penang Ngor Hiang platter. Yes. Taste was good, freshly fried, full of old school flavours. Dipping on the Braised gravy and chilli. It was really satisfying. Lastly, we also tabao their signature braised vinegar pork trotter for dad, not sure the how the taste but as what they indicated as their signature dish. Should be good. Another satisfying evening. Will be back.

Service staff was so rude. When we walk to the ordering counter the service lady staff just sat there looking at her phone. Have to greet her first. She just walk to the counter and take my order without looking at me or asking what I want. After I ordered she just look at the screen and key in The order without a single word from her. Later after she serve my food I asked her for red chilli and soya sauce she just walk straight and I doesn’t know if she heard what I asked. Fortunately she bought my red chilli in soya sauce. This’s not the first time this same situation happened to us , your other staff too have bad attitude. Luckily you have good food otherwise I’ll never go back there. Hope you can improve it. Best regards.

Was honestly worried about the less than stellar reviews before coming here. Had the char kway teow, assam laksa, and a kaya butter set. Sure the service isn’t polished but the food was good! Not mind-blowing good but genuinely surprised by the quality. CKT had lots of lard and cockle, wasn’t too salty. Ok maybe the wok hei could be more. Assam laksa was one of the better ones you can find in SG. The iced kopi was unexpectedly tasty. Will be back to try the rest of the menu.

Air conditioned coffeeshop… always come here for their Penang laksa and Penang char kway teow. Evenings are normally busy with families having Zhi char food.
