We usually eat at Downstairs next door but wanted to try this place as it always seemed to be popular. Ordered the braised duck rice set and the Kway Chap set, as well as a lime juice. Must say that the lime juice was the best item that day. The duck was okay, but there was not much meat and what there was were cut into very narrow strips. There was more tofu/taukwa, and a little bit of salted vegetables. For the kway chap, the kway was nice but the small intestines did not taste clean. I liked the fatty pork, what there was of it, and again there was too much of the tofu/taukaw pieces. We both ended up still feeling hungry and actually went to next door Downstairs for their kaya buns and coffee.
View on GoogleVisited this eatery for lunch. Here's my opinion about this place. Food - the kway chap set tasted similar to those found in food court. The kway was thin and had a little bit of sour taste to it. The clay pot spinach with salted and century eggs wasn't tasty. Service - self order and collection. Atmosphere - noisy and warm. Overall is average.
View on GoogleThis shop is across the street from where I live, and I want to start by saying that I am so glad to have a kway chap shop so near my home. Being under the Song Fa group, one is naturally assured of a "minimum standard" they achieve being a part of a large group of eateries. I am sure there are other kway chap stalls/shops out there in Singapore that may make better-tasting kway chap, but theirs is really good enough for me. Something note-worthy is definitely their excellent braised duck. The meat is so tender, but I do find the gravy to taste a bit too salty at times. Maybe it depends on my palate at that time. The price is not cheap, but also not terribly exorbitant. It is acceptable for an occasional meal. I usually order the 1 person kway chap set and add on a portion of braised duck meat.
View on GoogleHad always wanted to try this Kway Chap eatery but could never get a seat in past visits. So finally managing to grab one today came with high expectations. We ordered a 2-pax and a 1-pax set, plus a spicy chicken dish and two drinks—total came to about $33. Unfortunately, the Kway Chap didn’t quite impress. Maybe it just wasn’t their day in the kitchen—one of my dining companions, who visits occasionally, even mentioned that the soup was more diluted than usual.
View on GoogleThe kway chap was smooth, and the soup base was flavorful and comforting. We ordered the 2-pax set, and the portions were generous, offering great value for the price. The food tasted excellent—especially the intestines, which were well-cleaned with no unpleasant smell. The pork belly and duck meat were tender and delicious, complementing the meal perfectly. Highly recommend this place for kway chap lovers!
