Kitty and I had been running errands and decided to try Downstairs at Northshore Plaza 1. We had passed by it a few times, but we hadn't stopped in until we noticed their new Signature Wok Fried and Prawn Mee. We were pleasantly surprised by the experience. The decor is charmingly nostalgic, reminiscent of old HDB void decks complete with touches of dragon playgrounds, creating a fun and unique atmosphere that wasn't too loud. The ordering process is efficient, utilising a self-service kiosk. After placing your order, you simply wait for your number to appear on the display before collecting your food. I ordered the Signature Wok Fried, priced at $12.90, and added the Braised Pork Belly for $3.20. The dish was unique, bearing resemblance to Hokkien Mee, but crafted with pure bee hoon instead of the usual yellow noodles. The texture was excellent, and the belacan chilli provided a delightful kick. It wasn't oily or overly rich, a welcome change. In fact, Kitty enjoyed it so much that she ended up switching dishes with me. The set also came with a lime juice. Kitty initially had the Signature Prawn Mee for $12.90, which also features pure bee hoon. She remarked that the soup texture was perfect and thoroughly enjoyed the dish. Being a soup enthusiast, she requested a top up, and the staff kindly reheated the soup before adding it, a thoughtful gesture that enhanced our experience. The set also came with a lime juice. Overall, based on the two dishes we sampled and the attentive service, we had a wonderful experience, and we will definitely return to explore more of their menu.

Ordered the Downstairs Bee Hoon ($5) using my SG60 voucher. The service was good, the staff was polite and prepared my meal quite fast. 👍 The meal tasted nice, the bee hoon was cooked well. Both the fishcake and luncheon meat were hot and had a crispy texture. There were some spring onion added along the fried egg too. The meal was quite oily though so it could be an issue for people who do not like oily food. But overall, it's quite a nice place to have a meal as well. The decor was made to look like an old school void deck which was quite unique. I would say this is a good place to spend $5 for a small cheap meal with your CDC/SG60 voucher. 🙂👍✨

Was home on a visit two weeks ago and mom brought us to try the wanton mee. It was very good, we thought. Good flavour from the pork fat. The only issue was the hygiene and cleaner behaviour. The table was not wiped down properly so mom asked the cleaner if she could give it another go. The cleaner came over with a long face and when mom pointed out a big patch of liquid she'd missed again, the cleaner stopped what she was doing and glared at her for a few moments. Way aggressive and I was about to confront her when she stalked off. We had no other issues with the service staff. Would really have liked to visit again before we left Singapore but the experience put me off. I hope she's removed before she spoils another customer's day.

Donkey and I were out running errands and decided to give Downstairs at Northshore Plaza 1 a try. We'd walked by it a few times, but we finally stopped in when we saw they had a new Signature Wok Fried and Prawn Mee. We were really happy we did! The decorations are so cute and nostalgic, like an old HDB void deck with a dragon playground. It made for a really fun and unique atmosphere, and it wasn't too noisy. Ordering was easy; they have a self-service kiosk. After you order, you just wait for your number to show up on the screen before picking up your food. Donkey ordered the Signature Wok Fried ($12.90) and added the Braised Pork Belly ($3.20). He said it was different from anything he'd had before. It was kind of like Hokkien Mee, but made with only bee hoon instead of yellow noodles. He thought the texture was great, and the belacan chili gave it a nice kick. He said it wasn't oily or too rich, which was a nice surprise. I actually ended up liking it so much that I traded dishes with him! The set also came with a lime juice. I originally got the Signature Prawn Mee for $12.90, which also had bee hoon. I thought the soup was perfect, and I really enjoyed it. I love soup, so I asked for a refill, and the staff were so nice; they even reheated the soup before giving it to me. That was really thoughtful and made it even better! The set also came with a lime juice. All in all, we had a great experience with the food and the service. We'll definitely be back to try more things on their menu! Google Rating: 4/5 stars • Food: 4/5 - Signature Wok Fried and Signature Prawn Mee were both excellent, with unique bee hoon noodles. Belacan chili added a nice kick to the Wok Fried. • Service: 5/5 - Attentive and thoughtful service, including reheating the soup for a refill. • Atmosphere: 4/5 - Charming and nostalgic HDB-themed decor.

Downstairs attempts to recreate some semblance of 1990s nostalgia with the typical HDB neighborhood letter boxes (for show only) and phone booth. Inevitably, it also mirrors accurately the hawker hygiene standards of the 1990s where one can smell the distinct moist and smelly wet cloth used in wiping of tables and food trays. Salted egg chicken rice was ok, so was the chicken cutlet horfun. Just for clarification, the food here is not 1990s hawker prices. (Not cheap also by today’s hawker prices) Just remember to wash yr hands after handling the food trays unless you want to bring back the 1990s smelly cloth scent back home.
