Used to patronize this place in the 1980s before it was bought over by Breadtalk. The place was packed on Sunday but we managed to get a small round table. Had the batang fish soup and added fish roe in one bowl and bitter gourd in another. The fish slices were fresh and the soup was aromatic with strong taste of fried sole fish powder. I like this soup flavour very much. Prices are a little steep but quality is there. Service here is good. Coffeeshop is very cramp and warm.
View on GoogleRetrying this fish soup after a long time. There are many good fish soup places popping up. The verdict is that this is one of the better ones. The batang fish is fresh, the soup could be a bit more flavourful. The mustard veg, shallots, lettuce, tang chye and ginger gave it a clean soup combo taste that grows on you as the meal progresses.
View on GoogleChance upon this clean shophouse food stalls and to our surprise... I gave it a 7 out of 10 points. Fish soup stall opens at 8 am. We had the Pomfret and prawn soup with noodles and rice. Clear soup, fresh fish and fresh springy big prawn with clean soup taste. I think there is rooms for better taste in soup, lack of Umami. The other two stalls open at 11 am, seems to have lots of customers as well. Will definitely come back to try the others. Super clean and prompt empty plates collected by this cleaner gentleman, who always tell us to leave it even though there is a plate collection area.🥰
View on GoogleVery disappointing food, value and service Bought a bowl of pomfret fish soup at 5pm with no customer crowd, from First Street Teochew Fish Soup at Shoup today for $15.90. Unfortunately, the portion was extremely disappointing — just a few thin slices of fish, with three pieces being essentially pure bones. At $15.90, I expected a reasonable serving of actual fish. Instead, I felt like I was paying a premium price for very little food. The service was equally disappointing. The staff were not particularly service-oriented and the overall experience felt rather indifferent towards customers. For this price, both the food portion and service should be much better. Based on this experience, I won't be supporting this stall again and won't recommend it.
View on Google3.5/5 Go for the batang fish slices, I find them a lot better than the red grouper slices that I dabao back. The batang slices were fresher than the grouper slices. Soup is flavourful with a heavy dose of flat fish(tee po) powder. My favourite batang fish soup is still at Angel Horse Teochew Fish soup where they sell fresher fish slices and offer better value then First Street fish soup.
