I recently visited the Vegetarian Lotus Cafe at the Hougang branch and tried a few dishes. The fried laksa was a bit too wet for my liking, but the taste was decent. The fried carrot cake and 辣子鸡 were unfortunately too hard, with the 辣子鸡 being almost as tough as stone. On a positive note, the curry noodles weren’t bad, and the fried rice was quite good. However, the ordering system needs improvement. Our order got stuck halfway, and we had to go to the cashier to reorder, which was inconvenient. Overall, we still prefer the quality and experience at the 103 Irrawaddy Road branch, which is much better.
View on GoogleTerrible Service and Disappointing Food I had an awful experience at this restaurant and will definitely not be returning. It was my first visit, and the service was shockingly bad. I needed extra small plates and approached a staff member for assistance, but she literally walked away as if she was scared to talk to me. I had to raise my voice across the room just to ask where I could get the plates. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t any better. The fried mushrooms had a burnt taste, the noodles in the clay pot were completely bland, and the fried rice—where we paid extra for an additional egg—barely had any egg in it. When I asked about the egg, the waitress just said it was “fried inside.” Seriously? I couldn’t even see or taste it. To top it off, when clearing our plates, the waitress stacked dirty dishes onto one of our small eating plates. That was just unhygienic and unacceptable. Overall, the combination of poor service and disappointing food made this a terrible dining experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The only good is the tea and carrot cake
View on GoogleFirst time eating here and was blown away by how delicious (yet affordable) every dish was! Stir-fried items all had wonderful wok hei, even the simple chye sim. Deep-fried items were all very crispy BUT NOT OILY AT ALL, which is very very rare. They actually felt light and fresh. 🤩 Taste for the other dishes were on-point. Portions are huge and filling, definitely worth the price. CNY Yusheng was a creative combination of uncommon ingredients. Initially we were skeptical but they worked well together and was so healthy and yummy 😃 This shows the effort put into coming up with this recipe. Staff were all so friendly, proactive and accommodating. They overheard my elderly mum saying the aircon was cold, and offered to move us to another table. Was shocked to hear this branch might be closing in March. Pls continue!!! It’ll be such a waste of the talented chefs and dedicated staff. Hope to come back more times to try other dishes. No photos of the dishes cos we gobbled them down too fast LOL. The taro meesua cake + butter abalone mushrooms are divine! 🤤 P/s: I read through the bad reviews given here. Take those with a pinch of salt. If you click into the review history of a few people, it’s quite obvious the problem is probably with them, not the restaurants 😳
View on GoogleI am a fan of Lotus Vegetarian and so glad they now have a cafe so near to home. The staple favorites are the fried laksa, mee sua, chicken cutlet XO fried rice (my favourite), 抄手, Taiwanese oyster omelette. Friendly service staff and restaurant manager. It can get crowded especially on weekends so best to make reservations.
View on GoogleCute decor but not overwhelming. We're really glad food is as yummy as they look on the menu. Strong recommends: Stir-Fried Laksa Can miss: Teochew Porridge Set Helped ourselves with the complimentary water near the entrance. The other services are pretty good, kept checking if dishes are all served or needed to be cleared. Serving duration is acceptable for dinner period.
