After a 20km bike ride around Punggol and Coney Island today, I was starving and needed a serious dinner to recharge. I came to this kopitiam for the first time and decided to try the western food stall. Originally, I wanted pasta with meat. The uncle quickly told me, “This is western food, don’t mix pasta and rice.” Well… I do know what western food is, but alright uncle, you win. 😆 After looking around and seeing so many people enjoying their steak, chicken chop and pork chop, I decided to go for the sirloin steak. At only $11, the price was very reasonable. I ordered it medium and waited about 10 to 15 minutes. When the steak arrived, I was honestly surprised. For $11, this steak is easily a 5 star deal. The meat was tender, not chewy at all, and very easy to cut. The steak was also thicker than what you usually get at kopitiam western stalls. Every bite was enjoyable. The plate came with baked beans, coleslaw and French fries. If this exact same plate was served in the downtown area, I am pretty sure it could cost two or even three times more. Service is average. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible. It is a busy kopitiam serving the masses, so I have no complaints. The atmosphere is what you would expect from an older hawker centre. Not fancy, but one thing I noticed was the ventilation. It was surprisingly comfortable and not hot at all, which is always a bonus after a long bike ride. Will I come back? If I am cycling around this area again, absolutely. In fact, I might already be thinking about that steak on my next ride.
View on GoogleOrdered the dry ban mian ($4.80) and it was disappointing! The noodle portion was normal, but the taste was off as the noodle had a strange mushroom-like flavor. There was very little Chinese cabbage, only egg white (no yolk), minimal minced meat — basically barely any ingredients. Overall, the ingredients and taste were unsatisfying!
