Love everything we ordered! Dishes are very old schooled and tastes were nostalgic. The starter combination worth every single cent, it was a huge plate and had 5 varieties, all executed to perfection, our fav is the smoked duck, so tender and flavourful, it melts in the mouth. Sambal sweet potato leaves is a rare find, as well as salted egg pork. Enoki tofu tasted like mum's cooking. Can't wait to go back again!
View on Googlemy family tried chui xiang for the first time and ordered the $358 set menu (used an old pic showing $328 but dishes were the same). We also added on the marmite pork as it was recommended by a few reviewers. The restaurant is air con which is a plus against the popular ban leong next door. Jade was friendly and responsive and helped us with the orders however service was marred somewhat which i will share later. Food quality was good and portion generous and our family poll gathered that the cold dish combination and sea cucumber mushroom (with homemade beancurd added in by Chef owner Chiu who is a teochew) were our fave. We also liked the marmite pork, steamed grouper (would have preferred it teochew style with plum and mushroom with some sourishness to give dimension to the dish), brocolli scallop and cereal prawns. Several dishes we did not particularly enjoy - the cabbage chicken(chicken was tender but maybe need more chestnuts or some element mising) and orh nee (too blended and tasted flat). For service, the start was good but come to around 8.45-9.00pm and the last few courses, we felt being "chased" (esp by one of the staff) to clear the dishes and considering there were still 2 small tables dining. When we asked the restaurant closing time, we were told its 9.30pm and thus the 3* ratings for service. Million $ question - will i come back to dine again? Likely yes due to chef chiu down to earth personality, most of the staff service are generally good and for the fact that most of the dishes are decent - taste and portion wise.
View on GoogleApril 2024: visited this first time after a walk at the nearby park area. Delicious and reasonably priced. Had the best seller beef with Kailan as well as the seafood fried noodles. The seafood fried noodles had wok kei and was very tasty. April 2024: Another visit the same week! We had marmite pork ribs and it was tender and tasty! Must try. July 2024: yet another visit and tried more dishes. This would soon be our go to Zi char. Good portions and delicious. Oct 2024: dinner again and though it was full house, they managed to squeeze us in. Quick service but slow food quality. Nice. Fish slices were thick and portions generous. Dec 2024: another quick dinner visit and tried dishes new to us - long beans. Delicious. Their dishes never fails on taste and speed to table. Piping hot and perfectly executed. Jan 2025: tried more dishes today. As usual not disappointed as the dishes were all very good. March 2025: we tried a new dish - scrambled egg with crabmeat. V nice and yummy. April 2025: another visit for simple dinner
View on GoogleA Pleasant Surprise – Great Food & Service! I hadn’t originally planned to dine at this Chinese restaurant, but after being ignored at the Japanese restaurant next door, I decided to give this place a try—and I’m so glad I did! From the moment I walked in, the service staff was attentive and welcoming. The food arrived quickly, with generous portions and excellent flavors. Every dish was well-prepared, making for a truly satisfying meal. The only downside is the noise level, likely due to the low ceiling. However, that didn’t take away from the overall experience. I’ll definitely be back to try more dishes!
View on GoogleWent to this restaurant for lunch on Sunday (31st Aug). Ordered 4 dishes, 4 rice and 4 drinks. Total damage $75+ (includes service tax and GST) for 4 persons. The food were decent and we liked the sambal kang kong a lot. The place had air conditioning and came in handy with such warm weather. Parking could be a challenge as you got to wait for a while and count on your luck. Could use CDC to pay.
