Craving for Teochew Porridge and came here for a quick meal. Ordered a bowl of porridge and the following dishes: - Steamed fish with salted vegetable: A slice of a big sized fish topped with salted vegetables and steamed. They will dip the fish in a hot broth to warm it up before serving it up. - Fish cake with minced meat: These are hand-made by the stall owners. Delicious with a dash of their chili dip. - Spinach: Soft and easy to eat. Although the dishes look simple, they are tasty on its own. Their fish dishes are popular with customers, with most of their customers ordering a fish dish for their meal. Recommended! 😋👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We ordered 6 dishes, including a generously portioned whole fish, spinach vegetables, fishcakes, meatballs, minced meat, and sliced pork — and every dish tasted excellent. What surprised us the most was the price: just $23.50 for everything! That’s incredibly economical for the quality and quantity served. It’s easy to see why the place has such a high Google rating and a consistent queue — even at 8pm, there were close to 10 people waiting. Definitely a must-try spot if you love hearty, homely Teochew porridge at great value.

Ann Hoo has become my go to place for good Teochew Porridge. They offer a good variety of dishes including while groupers and pomfrets. Their homemade fish cake is really good, their salted veg (chai buey) is just right, minced pork with black beans, pork balls and other dishes are simply delish. Best is they're much cheaper than many other TP stalls. But be prepared to queue during peak hours.

Coming from a Teochew dialect family, Teochew porridge holds a special place in my heart. My grandma used to tell us how this humble dish was once the cheapest staple for the family—just one pot of plain, grainy porridge could feed the entire household, paired with a few preserved items and fresh vegetables. It wasn’t extravagant, but it was hearty, nourishing, and deeply comforting. I’ve always loved Teochew porridge, but in recent years, it’s become increasingly difficult to find a place that still serves it authentically and affordably. By authentic, I mean the familiar dishes I grew up with: salted vegetables, spicy black bean shark fish meat, minced pork with black bean, soft-cooked stewed vegetables, Teochew-style fishcakes, and of course, a range of steamed fish done just right. Ann Hoo Teochew Porridge is one of the rare gems that checks all the boxes. Their variety is excellent, and the dishes are well-executed—flavorful, homey, and not overly greasy or salty. Everything tastes like it was cooked with the intention of feeding a family, not just customers. The prices are also very reasonable, making it possible to enjoy this traditional meal without breaking the bank. Whether you’re Teochew or just a fan of simple, soulful food, Ann Hoo delivers that nostalgic, comforting experience that’s getting harder to come by these days.
