Everyone said the wanton noodle is good. Tried the dumpling noodles instead that turned out great! The dumpling must be hand-made bec it is rough on the edge but the ingredients are proper, generous and tasty. Will definitely come back again!

My visit here was adequate, though I didn't find anything particularly outstanding. 🤔 It's hard to say it stands out when comparing it to other hawker centers I've visited. The experience was just okay. 😐 There's nothing truly impressive that would make me rush back. 🤷

Old school dishes can find here. The western stall super long queue as usual. Must try the sugarcane juice. BenZhen wanton noodle is really yummy. The hokkien noodle at the last row is considered as not bad to try.

Ang Mo Kio Food Centre in the heart of Singapore’s bustling heartland offers some of the best hawker food around. A few of my favourite stalls here include the wanton noodles, super long queue char kway teow, fried carrot cake, yong tau foo, Whampoa soya bean and the Muslim halal stall. This hawker centre has a long and rich history, and I’ve been happily patronising it for over 20 years. It remains one of my go-to places for authentic, comforting local fare.

Let me paint you a picture: imagine stepping into a place where the tantalizing aroma of sizzling garlic, rich broths, and wok-fried perfection hangs thick in the air like perfume from the heavens. A place where culinary dreams aren’t just born — they’re grilled, simmered, braised, and served up in steaming bowls or wrapped lovingly in banana leaves. Welcome to Ang Mo Kio Central Market & Food Centre, a pulsating heart of Singapore’s hawker culture and an experience so vivid, so flavour-packed, it might just ruin all other food courts for you — permanently. From the second you enter this bustling, beating core of gastronomic greatness, you’re swept into an unfiltered celebration of local heritage. The chatter of customers, the rhythmic clang of metal utensils, and the sizzle of food hitting hot oil form a symphony more exhilarating than any concert. Here, food isn’t just sustenance. It’s art. It’s love. It’s tradition served fresh on a plastic plate — and let me tell you, it’s mind-blowingly good. Let’s talk highlights. The Hainanese chicken rice here is next-level divine. Moist, tender meat that practically melts in your mouth, rice cooked in rich chicken stock and garlic until each grain is a flavor bomb, and that triumvirate of sauces — garlicky chili, gingery paste, and dark soy — that elevate the whole dish to celestial heights. You’ve never known comfort food until you’ve had a plate of chicken rice from this food centre. Craving noodles? Try the lor mee — oh, the lor mee! Thick yellow noodles bathing in a rich, almost mythical gravy that clings to each strand like a lover that doesn’t want to let go. Toss in slices of braised pork belly, a halved hard-boiled egg, crunchy fried bits, and a dollop of garlic and vinegar, and you’ve got a dish that dances between decadence and nostalgia. And then, the char kway teow — a bold, smoky, artery-defying indulgence that crackles with wok hei (the sacred "breath of the wok"). This is no mere stir-fry. This is a masterclass in balance — chewy rice noodles tossed with Chinese sausage, cockles, eggs, and bean sprouts in a dark soy sauce glaze that leaves you speechless and licking your chopsticks. Seafood lovers, rejoice — the prawn mee and fishball noodles here are no afterthoughts. They’re the kind of dishes that lull you into silence with their umami depth and lightness of touch. The fishballs bounce with freshness, and the prawn broth is so rich and briny you’d swear it was conjured by Poseidon himself. And yes, there’s dessert — chendol, ice kacang, tau suan — traditional sweets so lovingly made, they’ll transport you straight to your childhood, even if you didn’t grow up here. It's nostalgia in a bowl, cooling you down in the tropical heat with the kind of joy that only gula melaka and pandan can deliver. But what truly sets Ang Mo Kio Central Market & Food Centre apart isn’t just the food (as mind-blowing as it is). It’s the atmosphere. The community. The intergenerational exchange happening at every table. You’ll see grandmas and teenagers, businessmen and retirees, all shoulder-to-shoulder over plastic trays, swapping stories and chilli recommendations. This is where heritage lives, breathes, and feeds. In a city brimming with culinary gems, Ang Mo Kio Central stands tall as a titan — unpretentious, unbeatable, and utterly unforgettable. Whether you’re a lifelong local or a wide-eyed visitor, eating here is more than a meal. It’s a cultural rite of passage. It’s where memories are made, families are fed, and taste buds are blown away. So go. Bring an empty stomach, a big appetite, and maybe an extra shirt — because you will sweat, you will queue, and you will fall in love. This isn’t just Singaporean food at its finest — this is Singapore at its finest.
