Didn’t patronise Yew Kee for the past ten years and decided to give it a try again. The standard has dropped a lot. The soup used to be my favourite, but now it tastes like soy sauce mixed with water, without the pleasant herbal flavour. The duck meat is hard. The only good thing is that the chili is still acceptable.
View on GoogleNot the first time to dine at this outlet but was very disappointed with the serving this time. Ordered set 4 with kway chap but look at the amount of ingredients. It was so pathetic especially the duck meat that were so thinly sliced. I have requested for no bean sprouts and braised peanuts but nothing extra were given as replacement. Not even replaced with taupok or taugua. The fish cakes were 2 thin slices placed at the sides. The amount of kway (forgot to take photo) was swimming in the bowl of soup. I will not go back to this branch again.
View on GoogleIf you’re a fan of traditional Teochew-style braised duck, the Yu Kee outlet at Tampines 1 (located at Basement 1) is a reliable and delicious choice. Having recently returned to the mall, it continues to serve up the consistent quality that the brand is known for. The Food: The star of the show is undoubtedly the Braised Duck Rice. The duck meat is tender, succulent, and well-infused with their signature herbal braising sauce. Unlike some places where the duck can be dry, Yu Kee manages to keep it moist. I highly recommend opting for the Yam Rice instead of plain rice; it’s fragrant and adds a wonderful depth to the meal. Their Kway Chap Set is another solid option if you’re in the mood for a variety of braised items like pig’s skin, tau pok, and offal, all served in a flavorful, dark herbal broth. Don’t forget to pair your meal with their signature chili sauce—it has just the right amount of tang and spice to cut through the richness of the braised meat. Ambiance & Service: Located in the basement, the stall is more of a “grab-and-go” or quick-service concept rather than a full-service restaurant. However, the service is generally efficient even during the busy lunch and dinner rushes. The staff are quick with orders, making it a great spot for a fast, satisfying meal. Value for Money: Prices are slightly higher than what you’d find at a neighborhood hawker center (expect to pay around $7.50 - $9.00 for a set), but given the air-conditioned comfort of the mall and the consistent quality of the food, it’s a fair trade-off. Pros: • Consistently tender and flavorful braised duck. • Fragrant yam rice and excellent herbal soup. • Convenient location in the heart of Tampines. Cons: • Can be a bit pricey compared to hawker alternatives. • Limited seating during peak hours as it’s a popular spot. Final Verdict: Yu Kee at Tampines 1 remains one of the best spots in the mall for a comforting, traditional meal. Whether you’re a regular or a first-timer, their braised duck is a must-try!
View on GoogleStandard duck rice for $6. don't know why the reviews are so bad, this was a good and satisfying plate of duck rice with decent portion of duck and accompaniments. Soup was also herbally which is uncommon nowadays. Overall, worth!
View on GoogleI have been eating you for many years. What happened to the size of the meat? The total amount of meat received is barely half the amount of a typical duck rice bought elsewhere.
