Crazy good experience dining at Gaku Sushi Bar @ Downtown East! So many things to talk about, really really love this place ^^ Staff at Gaku was really friendly and helpful. Appreciate the staff members who took time to explain the backstory behind the opening of Gaku, a brilliant move to cope with the pandemic when it was at it’s peak back then! Food was really delicious at Gaku. Two meals here thus far, and what I tasted was consistency, food just as awesome as the first time we had it! ^^ Favourite items: Foie gras foie gras foie gras, the way it melts and the oil seeps down into the rice, amazing! Other highlights include HUGE oysters as well as the mentai bowl. Already thinking about my next visit! :D
View on GoogleNice dining experience. The place is quite cozy and quiet. We can talk and eat peacefully. But we came for a very late lunch (around 3pm). So it might be more crowded during lunch or dinner time. The staff is very nice and excited, we had a good experience. The food itself is okay, not bad. We ordered the following - Sapporo Ramen - Spicy King Salmon Maki - Spicy King Salmon Roll (quite nice, if you like spicy food can try this one) - King Salmon Mentai Roll (recommended and must try) We didn't ordered any drinks, but with the vibes, probably best with sake
View on GoogleFriendly service and very good tempura. Update 13 July 2022 - Really good Aburi sushi, the Foie Gras was melting like warm ice cream in my mouth, Wagyu aburi was so tender. Do expect to spend around $50 here depending on what you order. Free top up of riced iced green tea. Excellent excellent service. Place is slightly dim on the outside but they are open for business! Feels very private and cosy inside.
View on GoogleAn absolute gem in the far east! The experience I had when we visited on a Saturday evening was perfect. The food was delectable and very well-presented. The raw food was fresh and cooked food was delicious. Everything about this restaurant impressed us, especially the service provided by the staff. I was warmly greeted and ushered to our table, and immediately offered a drink. Food was served promptly, it didn't feel like we waited at all. Our cups were consistently replenished by the impeccably groomed and attentive staff, our cups were never empty. Staff attended to our requests promptly, with a smile and with urgency. When we requested for our birthday cake that was kept in the fridge, they came nicely presented with lighted candles and they wished my friend a happy birthday. (In past experiences, we usually had to arrange the candles and light them up ourselves. Lol. ) All in all it was a pleasure dining in this restaurant. Everything was tip-top! Special thanks to Rizal, Melissa and all the service crew for making our birthday celebration a wonderful experience. PS. Food isn't as economical as what the other restaurants in Downtown East offered, but it was worth every penny!
View on GooglePassed this place many times but did not eat here until today. Ordered fries $10, chicken teriyaki $14, tofu $6, Tendon $15, truffle beef $26 with coke and green tea. Strangely, the chicken and beef did not come with rice and was ordered separately at $4 a bowl. I don't recall ever having to order rice separately at any Japanese restaurant or cafe before... maybe I'm ignorant, so please forgive me if I'm wrong. The staff were friendly and the kitchen did ok with cooking the meal, however the beef had a tendon (at least, that is what I think it was) running its entire length making it chewy and difficult to swallow. Portion was small, and the truffle powder on it overpowered the dish. The Tendon Don and tofu tasted ok. $10 fries was ok too, but...$10. The Waitress recommended the truffle fries $14, and in a way, I'm glad I did not order that because that would probably have be overpowered by the truffle powder as well. The total bill came up to $102 inclusive service and taxes, quite a lot for what we ordered compared with similar restaurants with the same dishes. I would probably not return because there are plenty of food choices at Downtown East with better value. Although, this is only my personal opinion.
