First time here, ordered the braised pork ribs with bittergourd and the Nonya Chap Chye. After placing the order, it was ready in less than 10 mins. The texture of the pork ribs is rough, hard and not tender. The sauce is very spicy though the menu did not state that. The bittergourd tastes really bitter! The Chap Chye is like half-cooked and half-uncooked and the texture is hard and not soft as expected. We asked for a replacement, yet it was still the same standard. The dishes are not cooked properly, any Tze Char stall and vegetable rice stall could cook the dishes way better. I reckoned the dishes are not given enough time to cook till soft and tender. The staffs are not trained properly to cook these Chinese food well. The standard really cannot.

Hainan Storey Coffee House offers a comforting range of traditional local delights. The traditional laksa stands out with its rich and aromatic broth, giving a satisfying taste of old-school flavor. However, the steam chicken falls short — the meat tastes frozen and reheated by microwave, lacking the tenderness and freshness expected of Hainanese-style chicken. On a brighter note, the bun toast and half-boiled eggs are still well-prepared, delivering the familiar comforting taste of a local breakfast set. The Three Treasures drink is a pleasant surprise, blending Yin Yang and Milo for a unique twist that’s both nostalgic and refreshing. The crispy pork and chicken cutlet are nicely fried to perfection, juicy inside with a deliciously crunchy coating. Overall, while not every dish hits the mark, Hainan Storey Coffee House still serves up a satisfying mix of local flavors worth trying.

Had the most pathetic dinner here. Ordered the 白米粉 (white bee hoon) and first off, it's not white. In hainanese style or whatever, they added tomato sauce in it. Secondly, there was no taste. No taste of tomato sauce, no taste of chicken, lala, bee hoon, MSG, nothing. It was completely tasteless. I thought I got COVID & lost my tastebuds, because I've never had such a tasteless meal. Third, the ingredients were bad. The chicken was like chewing leather. The egg was like soggy cardboard. Lala had grit in them. Did I mention it was tasteless? I shed a tear eating the bee hoon. A 10 year old can cook this blindfolded & it would probably taste better than whatever I was served. Couldn't stomach more than a few bites. The only thing salvaging my review from being one star was the pig stomach soup. Not because it was delicious. Very far from it. But because it was overloaded with ingredients. The pig soup was slightly less tasteless. It was spicy with black pepper, but still bland, very watered down. One of the worst pig stomach soups I've had in my life. The zap chai was not very hainanese style. It was undercooked, the vegetable was raw & hard, but flavor-wise not terrible. The hash brown was the only properly edible thing, but it takes a special kind of terrible to mess up instant fried food. This will live down as one of the saddest meal I've had in recent years.

Came here as it was empty on a Sun night, while the other places were pretty full. Service and atmosphere are pretty standard, self-order, find a seat, pick up food. All good there. The FOOD though? :( I got the curry chicken drumstick which was just incredibly salty and really not that tasty. The other dishes weren’t much better. We ate and left quickly, so no photos of the food. But save yourself some cash and some disappointment and pop up to literally any other stall here.

25Jan2026 It was a Sunday. It was not crowded because many of the dishes were sold out. The food was not nice and I can understand why the rating is low. There is no proper place to return the tray. It is self service so no service charge. I did not capture the food we ordered. It was the basic curry rice with drumsticks and cutlet with 2 iced barley. Upon ordering, you need to make payment before they prepare the food. I guess this is the way to cut down manpower. But we will not be coming back again. There are better Hainan branches elsewhere .
