Very surprised by the poor reviews here. Came with my mum yesterday and the service was actually very prompt despite the place being almost full and them being slightly understaffed. We got most of our food (except dessert obviously) in 10 minutes , the prawns took about 20 minutes. All the dishes were of a very high standard except for the mango sago dessert which was very poor. The price point is really very high however and although the taste is good I don't think the exorbitant price justifies it. Better to eat at their kopitiam outlet equally delicious and without such high prices. I guess if you come in a large group and split at least 4 ways, the cost will be more reasonable .
View on GoogleRating: 3.5 / 5 stars 🤩 : hearty soup, comfortable dining experience 🤧 : hit and miss with food Have been wanting to visit 老火湯 since its opening in PRM due to the comfy restaraunt layout and good spread of offerings. Having tried the soups in the hawker outlets, I was excited to find out if it had more to offer. We ordered the following, for a party of 3: 🔘Chicken collagen soup: was served with a whole chicken leg and a heap of ingredients. The soup was rich and well seasoned. Each serving of soup can be refilled once. 🔘 Sliced fish with ginger: a tiny portion that’s perhaps only good for two. In contrast, the same money gets you a huge pot of fish and soup that will feed 4-5. Additionally, the team seemed to be unable to rid it of the excessive fishiness. 🔘 Cereal prawn ball: good portion size and fresh prawns that were well cooked. However, seemed to be lacking in the flavour department. 🔘 Mango sago: a disaster. Ice base was made with artificial mango juice, which tasted really cheap. Perhaps due to the way it was produced, the ice remained in hard chunks. The ice was topped with sour and dry pomelo, completely frozen sago, and unripe mango. The mango wasn’t a case of being borderline unripe with a hint of sour, it was crunchy and perhaps only suited for making Thai Mango Salad. With just under 10 tables filled, the restaurant seemed to have diffculties running the floor with just 3 service staff. While there were no hiccups, service seems to be largely uncordinated. While I appreciate the good soup, I may not be back here. Not a bad spot at all for a family meal in Pasir Ris, but I reckon you look for better and more reliable options.
View on GoogleHad the ginseng chicken soup. It was thick, seemingly cooked with ginseng powder, has MSG. It was served hot. Which is a good thing. Soup was refillable once. Nice touch. The minced pork with mei cai wasn’t too good. Has an odd porky taste. Suspect the dish was steamed from frozen pork. The rice at $2 is a large portion. Positive! Staff are generally polite.
View on GoogleFood is nice. Many review mentioned that soup was cold but it was just not piping hot. I feedback to the receptionist. Hopefully next time will be piping hot . The steam egg was excellent.
View on GoogleI wanted to take a moment to commend Jane for her outstanding service during our visit today. My wife and I arrived at the restaurant around 2:30 PM, and from the moment we entered, Jane made us feel incredibly welcome. She was attentive to our needs throughout our visit, always checking in with a friendly smile, and offering assistance without us needing to ask. Her positive attitude and joyful demeanor truly enhanced our dining experience. Additionally, she was very helpful when it came to arranging our takeaway order, making sure everything was packed properly and efficiently. We genuinely appreciated her professionalism and the warmth she brought to our visit, and we felt well taken care of thanks to her exceptional service.
