Bustling, no-nonsense Chinese restaurant offering traditional soups & noodle dishes.

Started 50 years ago, Mr Seng Kee was selling Black Chicken Herbal Soup as a road side hawker. It was in 1970 when Mr Seng Kee then came up with the recipe of the famous mee sua. It was very well received and business expanded to current locations at 473/475/477 Changi Road.

We celebrated a birthday dinner on a Tuesday evening at Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Soup along Changi Road. Located just a 5-minute walk from Kembangan MRT on the East West Line, it is incredibly convenient to reach without a car. We also surprisingly found parallel street parking right outside with ease—perhaps a stroke of luck due to the 7th month! You simply cannot visit Seng Kee without ordering their quintessential large Mee Sua, priced at $9.00. This dish has been my absolute comfort food for the past 25 years! Every sip of the broth brings back deeply fond memories of frequenting their old stall at the Block 511 hawker centre, where the amicable late founder and father of the business would personally sit at the front to take our orders. The comforting, robust herbal broth remains the enduring soul of this establishment. We picked out a fresh red snapper fish head and had it prepared as a rich fish curry, which was billed as "Steam Fish" for $28.00. The gravy was delightfully spicy, incredibly flavorful, and went absolutely perfectly with a simple bowl of white rice. We ordered a small portion of crispy fried bee hoon for $11.00, and it was a genuinely good, substantial addition with a highly satisfying charred texture. The Fried Fermented Pork for $14.00 small plate was easily one of the best culinary surprises of the night. The deep, savory funk of the furu (fermented beancurd) paste infused beautifully into the pork, making every single bite fantastic and highly addictive. The French Bean with Shrimp is a classic zhi char dish executed exactly right for $14.00, providing a great savory crunch to balance out the heavier proteins. At a total of $76.00 including a 9% GST for an outstanding spread of fresh fish, noodles, and expertly fried meat dishes, it proved to be an excellent, fuss-free venue for a weekday celebration.

Kitty and I recently embarked on a cycling excursion from Punggol specifically to satisfy a long standing craving for the Pork Liver and Kidney Mee Sua at Seng Kee. Although we have frequented this establishment on several occasions, we felt it was high time to provide a formal review of our experience. Our order consisted of the signature Kidney and Liver Mee Sua, a bowl of White Mee Hoon, and a side of Salted Egg Yolk Sotong. To quench our thirst after the ride, we also ordered a Balonglong juice and an Ai Yu Bing (Ice Jelly). The drinks amounted to $6.50, bringing the total cost for the entire meal to $35.50. The Pork Liver and Kidney Mee Sua remains as exceptional as ever, with the ingredients prepared to a consistently high standard. The White Mee Hoon was also delightful and arrived at our table piping hot. Remarkably, despite being seated directly beneath a ceiling fan, the noodles retained their heat throughout the duration of our meal. For those who prefer a more acidic profile, there is an ample supply of vinegar available to top up your noodles. However, we noted that the vinegar provided seemed to be of a somewhat inferior quality. Even after adding a generous amount, the sharp, distinctive flavour profile did not quite come through, which was slightly disappointing. Nevertheless, this was a minor detraction from an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable meal. It is worth noting that Seng Kee operates as a full Zi Char stall with an extensive menu beyond their famous herbal soups. It remains a reliable destination for a hearty meal, and we shall certainly be returning.

Other than the famous black chicken mee sua, soup and beehoon, this restaurant by the roadside has surprising hits with their curry fish head and other dishes too. Generally fast service, coupled with decent food. Non air conditioned and may have occasional houseflies.

This restaurant has been here for ages. Popular and famous for their herbal soup Mee Sua. Ordered this dish and it comes with very generous servings of pork meat and pork liver. They also have kidneys in the order but you can request not to have any of it inside. Can be customised. The sweet n sour pork is one of the best I have tried. It packs a bit of crunch when you bite into the meat and the sauce is not too overpowering Portion wise I would have prefer a few more pieces of meat The chinese spinach was were cooked and again generous serving of the fried white baits on top Service wise you need to order from the menu that is plastered on the wall by the cashier. They DO NOT have a physical or digital menu and that is so strange. So we ordered potato leaves and paid before we sat down. Then the staff came over to say it’s out of stock. Then we have to walk back up the front to order other dish. Not an ideal option as a service restaurant. Also put off thought of additional orders in between. Drinks are ordered and paid separately too But still a good heritage of Singapore to go try

One of my go-to places whenever I’m craving a comforting, no-fuss Chinese meal. The food here is consistently delicious, the portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. We ordered a few dishes to share, and everything was freshly cooked, full of flavour, and arrived quickly. The herbal soup is a must-try, but the stir-fried dishes and fried rice were just as satisfying. The atmosphere is casual and bustling, which adds to the authentic local dining experience. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find both locals and visitors enjoying a hearty meal. If you’re looking for good food at honest prices, Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Soup is definitely worth a visit. Great value, great flavours, and I’ll happily be back again.
