1Jul26 - owned by a Chinese Muslim, the owner told us that Islamic financial principles guide his business. It was also heartening that despite inflation and rising food costs, he has not raised Mak's Place's food prices since Covid times (5-6yrs ago)! Dine in: We tried the Hokkien Mee, Squid Youtiao / Fritter (so good! Generous tender squid filling, soft crisp youtiao even when no longer hot), dry fried beef kway teow, spicy seafood fried rice, gong bao chicken, homemade barley drink with lemon slices (thick, zesty, unsweetened), vanilla ice cream (halfway through I made my own affogato), kopi si kosong and teh si kosong peng. The fried rice and kway teow were a little too sweet for me, however I think it is probably to cater to their customers' tastes. Opens late and you can even order up to 12.30am! Takeaway: Fried fish bee hoon soup, seafood crispy noodles, ginger beef (not in picture). Service is warm, setting comfortable (we were at unit 405), toilet is clean and equipped.

A legendary place. My family my friends and I have when eating here almost two decades. Love the food, love the ambiance. Patronized this restaurant before I was married until I have kids now. Chinese lady owner has always been sweet. Since day one. But there is one pinoy lady, who is the main supervisor, slightly plum and doesn’t smile, and regularly cold in service. I’ve been enduring her for the longest time, but this time I have to make this review happen. I’m sorry. I’ll make it short. So, one late night I ordered food to dine in, then because it’s nice, I ordered to take away too. Paid her in cash, and she gave me the wrong change. So I gently notify her with a smile, but unfortunately she snapped back. Then she checked again, and realised it was short and gave me the correct change in return. Because she snapped at me verbally with a raised voice, I just said nicely with a sweet tone… “relax, don’t be angry. It’s ok” after which I left. So yes, I believe she has resentment to a certain level in serving a specific demographic of crowd. Unpleasant. Unwarranted. Unnecessary. Will I come back? Yes I will. Why? Because the Chinese lady owner is the sweetest and I love my salted fish fried rice and Hokkien mee.

Taste - 4.8/5 Service - 4/5 Must order before seating. Food came fast. Delicious food especially the weatern. Price quite reasonable for the portion.

Came back after few years.. ordered ikan bilis fried rice, porridge and fries... Chinese lady with specs (guess the lady boss) took order as if all was good and confirmed. But Fried rice came after 10mins. Keep waiting for porridge and fries.. untill we done eating fried rice. The rest of the food still not there. Went to the cashier and told the lady boss to tapao our porridge and fries. She packed the porridge and gave me with a smile without any feeling of guilt. Eventually fries she forgot and end up we ate only fried rice.. not on my book anymore! ( Places was not crowded when we came)

A colleague introduced me to Mak’s place back in 2000, and since then, it has been a go-to spot for us. 🍽️ Over the years, it’s become more than just a restaurant—it’s like visiting an old friend who never fails to impress. 💖 From the quality of the food to the warmth of their hospitality, it’s no wonder we’ve stayed loyal for so many years. 🙌 Even after more than two decades, Mak’s place continues to serve dishes that hit all the right notes. 🎶 It’s a testament to their dedication and consistency. 💯 Whether it’s for a special occasion or just a casual meal, this place holds a lot of fond memories for us. 🥰 Thank you, Mak, and your amazing team, for being such an important part of our food journey all these years. 🙏 Here’s to many more visits and unforgettable meals! 🍴😋
