This is our third visit to Hua Yu Wee Seafood. We first got to know this place when we attended a friend’s birthday dinner here. They have a huge variety of dishes to choose from. Some of our favourites are the Feng Shan Chicken, Fried Black Pork, BBQ Longevity Fish and Orh Nee, all delicious and worth ordering. The restaurant is huge and has a really nice nostalgic, old-school atmosphere that makes the dining experience quite unique. Valet parking is also available, which is very convenient. Definitely a great place for family gatherings or group dinners. We’ll be back again!

Frankly speaking, this place has been opened so long and am so old and yet first time visiting it! Recommended by a friend and was told hard to get a reservation, was still able to book a table 3 days before. Reached there the place was so crowded. Thought would get an indoor table but got an outdoor one instead. Surprisingly the weather wasn't hot and there was a light breeze so it was quite comfortable. Was wondering if would have mosquitoes but didn't encounter any. So we didn't really know what to order and we asked the staff for recommendations. Basically all the dishes were recommended by the staff and we went ahead with it. So we had a few dishes and everything was good. The ones which we all loved was the deep fried chicken and the seafood hor fun. They were pretty unique, the chicken was very tender and juicy despite being fried, the hor fun tasted so special when it was fried, dish was filled with wok hei. The black pepper crabs were so flavourful and the sauce was power. The seafood were all very fresh and the drunken prawn was so good. It was a very enjoyable meal we all loved the food and said we will definitely come again in a bigger group and we can order more dishes to share. Definitely worth trying this old school establishment!

Old school vibes restaurant with vintage architecture serving pocket friendly local seafood zhi char since 1950’s. Option to sit in aircon indoor or outdoor terrace. There is no service charge from their service staff wearing traditional sarong kebabs top uniform that bear a striking resemblance to the iconic SQ stewardess uniform, adding to the charm of the heritage bungalow restaurant. There is no corkage charge for your bottles of red wine ( no wine menu available). Food arrives fast & furious and in no time your table will be filled. We had the sharksfin soup $12+ per pax that is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, the prawn roll $12+ appetiser, half roast chicken $15+, seafoood horfun $10+, tea $1.30+ per pax, peanuts/picked no charges. Overall $69.32 for a fantastic delicious dinner with generous portion for 2! Definitely a great place to grab dinner if you want an energetic high decibel, vibrantly alive restaurant , packed and surrounded with noisy gatherings. Highly recommended for all locals & tourists. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hua Yu Wee Seafood Restaurant is one of those rare old school Singapore spots that still feels genuinely nostalgic without trying too hard. The moment you walk into the colonial style bungalow, it almost feels like stepping back into the 80s kampung seafood dining scene. Super spacious, breezy, and perfect for family dinners or big group gatherings. Don’t expect a super upscale or clean environment as it’s also considered a really old space and minimal upgrade has been done for the dining, toilets and kitchens. Both outdoor and indoor seating available. Their signature dishes definitely live up to the hype. The chilli crab has that rich, eggy gravy that goes so well with fried mantou, while the gong bao chicken is crispy, juicy, and dangerously addictive. Also liked the coffee pork ribs and lala. Portions are generous and prices feel more reasonable compared to many seafood restaurants around East Coast. The appetizer though is a let down - $6 for a small bowl of tomatoes and oranges soaked in sour plum sauce - do return this if you are not a fan of such a unique taste. What really makes this place memorable though is the ambience. Outdoor seating under the trees, old school service staff, and a very uniquely Singaporean atmosphere that is getting harder to find nowadays. Great place to bring parents, overseas friends, or anyone craving a proper nostalgic zi char experience. Just make sure to reserve beforehand because weekends get packed and crab dishes can take awhile during peak hours.

A nostalgic dinner at Hua Yu Wee 华友园, one of Singapore’s old-school seafood restaurants that still carries plenty of charm and memories. 🇸🇬🦀 We had quite a feast tonight. Started with the crispy fried tofu, golden outside and soft inside, followed by the deep-fried baby squid, nicely caramelised with that familiar sweet and savoury flavour. The ice plant salad was refreshing and a good balance between all the richer dishes. The poached chicken was tender and juicy, simply prepared in that comforting traditional style. The poached sea prawns were another highlight - plump, succulent and naturally sweet. Simply prepared and served with a dipping sauce, this is the kind of dish where freshness makes all the difference. Sometimes the simplest preparation is the best way to enjoy good seafood. 🦐 The seafood crispy noodles came loaded with prawns and clams in a rich gravy - comforting old-school Cantonese style. We also enjoyed the crispy pork ribs, coated in a dark sweet-savoury sauce with almond flakes. And of course, how can we come to Hua Yu Wee without having crab! 🦀 Big, meaty and satisfying, especially with the rich sauce. Made the evening even better with a bottle of 2021 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Rossignol-Trapet 🍷 - perhaps not the most conventional pairing for Chinese seafood, but a lovely Burgundy is always enjoyable! What I like most about Hua Yu Wee is the atmosphere. Dining in this old bungalow surrounded by its nostalgic setting feels like stepping back into the Singapore of years gone by. Good seafood, good wine and great company - a wonderful evening!
