River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodles
Longtime, popular place serving a variety of prawn-noodle plates & soups, plus some pork-based fare.
Hoe Nam is a pillar of Singapore’s Local Food heritage, a decades-old institution renowned for its umami-packed prawn noodles and its modernistic-nostalgic take on Bak Kut Teh. Hoe Nam is an important pillar of Singapore's local food culture; as a time-honoured establishment with decades of history, it is famous for its rich, savoury prawn noodles, and is highly esteemed for its distinctive interpretation of bak kut teh, simmered with large pork bones and herbs.

River South Hoe Nam Prawn Noodles is an absolute gem easily one of the best prawn noodle spots I’ve tried in Singapore! We ordered the dry prawn noodles and the soup version and both were outstanding. The dry noodles were tossed in a rich flavourful sauce topped with huge fresh succulent prawns and tender seafood slices every bite was packed with taste. But the real star here is the soup it’s seriously good deep robust brimming with natural prawn sweetness and umami you can tell it’s been simmered for hours. We also had the pork & liver soup which was clean comforting and fresh plus the crispy fried fish slices golden crunchy on the outside and soft inside perfect side dish. Portions are generous ingredients are fresh and quality is top notch. Service was friendly and quick too. If you love prawn noodles this place is a must visit 10/10 will definitely be back again and again!
View on GoogleOrdered the pork ribs with large prawns noodle soup and really enjoyed it. The broth was super flavourful with a rich umami taste. The pork ribs were tender, well-seasoned, and very satisfying. Only downside was the prawns were slightly overcooked. If they had been cooked just right, this would easily be a 10/10 bowl of comfort prawn noodles for me. The eatery’s air-con didn't seem to be working very well too, so the place felt a bit stuffy and practically infused with the aroma of prawn broth. Still a very good bowl overall and definitely worth coming back for.
View on GoogleIt’s been a long time since I came back for this traditional prawn noodle. They’ve moved out of the old coffee shop and are now in a nicely renovated air-conditioned shop just across the road. No more dealing with the rude aunty—now the food is prepared by PRC staff who are friendly and welcoming. The taste is slightly different from before, but still acceptable and satisfying. I ordered a small bowl of prawn noodle soup for $11—simple, comforting, and a good way to start the day.
View on GoogleSmall prawn is smaller than my pinky. Worst still, they cut into 2. Very dry and tasteless. Used to come here so often last time, right now food quality is so bad. Told the staff that the small prawn is smaller than dried shrimp, shouldn’t be listing as small prawn. They just brush through say batch came smaller. But doesn’t make sense as I see lots of comments saying about the small prawn. Won’t ever come again already.
View on GoogleReally enjoyed the prawn noodles at Hoe Nam! 🍜🦐 The price is very reasonable, especially for the portion. The soup is thick, rich and full of flavour — you can really taste the sweetness and depth of the prawn broth. Definitely satisfying and worth coming back !
