2026.9.5 My 2nd time eating here. Probably one of the more “successful” restaurants in this mall. Thanks to very clever marketing of loss leader dishes at S$9.90. The dishes were all very tasty, including the S$9.90 barramundi fish and herbal prawns soup. Both were acceptable fresh. The CP performance is excellent. I would have rated it a 5… until I get MSG thirst upon reaching home.

We visited at around 6pm, when the restaurant was relatively empty (only about three tables were occupied and there was no queue). Despite that, the food took quite a while to arrive, and when it did, it was only barely warm. We ordered the $9.90 promotional fish and the $24 prawn vermicelli. For the fish, I suppose the quality matched the promotional price. It wasn’t particularly fresh and still had some scales on it, but for $9.90, I’ll close one eye. The eye I can’t close, however, is for the prawns. The prawns were clearly not fresh, they were difficult to peel even by hand, despite already being sliced for easier peeling. Since they were already prepared that way, I’m not sure why they couldn’t have been deveined as well. For a zi char restaurant with air-conditioning that also charges GST and service charge, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect prawns without the digestive tract still inside. The cutlery also felt oily before we even started eating, and we ended up paying an additional $0.50 for wet tissues just to clean the grime off our hands. Another disappointment was the $9.90 prawn promotion advertised outside the restaurant. The display photo showed what looked like a full plate of prawns, but customers were only served six pieces. The advertisement felt quite misleading. That said, the restaurant itself was pleasant and comfortable, which perhaps raised my expectations for the food. Unfortunately, the dining experience didn’t live up to the setting.

Always wanted to try this restaurant every time when visit Grantral Mall, but somehow there is always queue. By the way, restaurant serves Xing Hua food. Finally I am able to try it and was pleasantly surprised by the food quality and price. There was a waiting time of approximately 15 minutes. While waiting we were attended by a friendly staff who took our orders first before we were seated to speed up the serving time. Indeed, after 15 minutes we were finally seated and the cold dishes were served in less than 10 minutes. We ordered the chilled tofu with century egg and sliced pork with minced garlic. These were standard dishes in most Chinese restaurant and they cannot get any wrong - both dishes were delicious. It took a while for the next dish to be served; we ordered the Putian Ca Fen which is a soup based noodle made of bee hoon and mee sua. We ordered a small serving but the portion is definitely good to be shared between two diners. The next dish took another 10 to 15 minutes to be served, which was not consistent (the reason for a 4 star instead of 5) as we are still waiting for the other dishes to go along with plain rice. The next dish served was the Bian Rou soup - some dumpling soup. This dish was one of my favourite and definitely this restaurant served it well. Another 10 minutes of wait, finally our last two dishes arrived - Spicy clams (Gan Xiang) and Scallop braised with silk gourd. Both were tasty as well and the portion was reasonable as well. We ordered small portion for every dish, good enough for 3 diners. Compared to a popular chain restaurant that serves similar food, this place is definitely more reasonable in price.

Good selection of food at reasonable price. Do get the offer of sea bass and prawns at 9.90. Quite a deal for a restaurant dish. Restaurant is crowded. Fish and prawns are fresh. Lala noodles is good. Dandan Mian can be skipped. Yam with duck , fish skin are tasty. Orh nee can skip as it seems expensive compared to the quantity given. Overall it is a good find serves great Putian food
