Growing up in Jurong, I recall the many meals of comfort food from this franchise at a nearby hawker centre then. The branch in Jurong has long been gone, but I’m glad to have found another outlet in Toa Payoh. The roast chicken is one of my favourite, where the skin is well roasted yet the meat remains succulent. White chicken is alright but not done in my preferred style. Portions have always been generous at this franchise and I appreciate the equally generous amount of condiments provided. Enjoyed the rice as usual though it may not be as fragrant as other brands, but it was just nice for me. The rice ball could be less dense though. Overall an enjoyable meal and trip down memory lane.
View on GoogleSteamed Chicken Rice ($3.50) Truly worth the price for the food! Nostagic, love the aromatic rice and perhaps I shall try the rice ball next time. Chicken wise, was tender and honestly I wasnt expecting this portion which I find totally reasonable for the price. Not forgetting to mention the soup, overall I felt that Ive found a treasure place. Do visit it, highly rrcommend.
View on GoogleGreat Wall Chicken Rice is situated at Toa Payoh 183 Food Court along the shophouses of Toa Payoh Mall. The price is very affordable at S$3.50 or S$4 per plate depending on which type you choose and the portions are generous. Condiments like sweet soy sauce, chili, and minced garlic are available at the counter. The rice is fragrant although I feel that it could be a little more savory in flavor. The chicken meat on the other hand was always tender or crispy for the steamed/roasted chicken and cutlet respectively when purchased. The soy sauce drizzled on the steamed/roasted versions adds to the savoriness of the meat while the choice of the cutlet variations would depend on the sauce you prefer like thai(sweet and spicy), lemon(sour and sweet), etc. *Overall review is based only on service and food. Atmosphere is graded 3/5 due to its location as a open-air food court where you are exposed to the elements like the heat and other factors like second hand smoke which is beyond the stall's control.
View on GoogleLooking for a simple lunch before our keys collection and chanced upon this chicken rice stall so we decided to try it (given that the photos looked decent). At $4 a plate, there’s nothing I could complain about - and that’s with an egg atop the generous portion of chicken. 🥚The chilli was spicy and decent, rice was properly cooked too. 🌶️ This is an easy 3.5 ⭐️- not sure why it’s not getting a queue during lunch time.
View on GoogleVery affordable chicken rice around centre area in Toa Payoh. Always comes back to this Great Wall, the taste of the rice is so old school. Love it. The soups is deep, yum. One man show, please have some patience during peak.
