It is genuinely rare to find deep-fried chicken that is consistently served fresh, piping hot, and with the exact level of crunch that Mr Grumpy manages to achieve. With their expansion into multiple satellite outlets across the island (stemming from their legendary original flagship at Lucky Plaza), it is clear they have successfully systematized their kitchen operations without losing their trademark quality. This specific outlet is situated within a beautifully renovated coffeeshop that is exceptionally well-ventilated and designed with modern, industrial aesthetics, making for a decently comfortable and airy neighborhood dining experience. The real star of the show has to be their house-made sambal chilli. It delivers a phenomenal flavor profile that pairs beautifully with the heavily spiced fried chicken. Combined with the subtle, distinct fragrance of their seasoned rice, all the components harmonize perfectly to create an incredibly satisfying, high-benchmark comfort meal.

got their 𝑺𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑵𝒂𝒔𝒊 𝑨𝒚𝒂𝒎 𝑮𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒈 & wow…the chicken was so crispy!! it was freshly fried & I like that the batter wasn’t thick or oily, but instead it was light & SUPER CRISPY I actl rly enjoyed it!! & the crispy bits on top…😙🤌🏼 the rice reminded me of classic chicken rice but a slightly milder version & the sambal leaned on the sweeter side!! the soup served on the side was a soto-style chicken broth, flavourful w the spices yet not too salty they also have add-ons like the bergedil, quail eggs & sausages for js $1 each!

4.5 stars! one bowl of nasi ayam for $6.50. the chicken is super crispy! the flesh inside has enough savouryness and saltyness for me, though my friends say can have more flavour. the meat is juicy enough except towards the breast where it's a little bit more dry. i find the portion not very big ah honestly it looks big. for the rice i like its fragrance! the chilli is not really my thing. it's too sweet and not super spicy. the soup is also not my thing also lah the pepper is nice but it's not personally to my taste. overall would eat if i craving fried chicken and am around the area.

Had an unexpectedly great meal at Mr Grumpy Chicken Rice! The chicken was incredibly tender and juicy, with just the right amount of seasoning. The rice was fragrant, fluffy, and full of flavour not overly oily like some places. What really stood out was their homemade chilli sauce and ginger paste, absolutely addictive! Portions were generous, prices were fair, and service was fast despite the lunch crowd. Definitely one of the better chicken rice spots around. Will be back for sure!

Fried chicken portions are big, drumsticks are extra crispy on the outside and very juicy on the inside. We also ordered fried wings with chicken breast meat. Although breast meat is a little harder than drumsticks but it wasn’t dry. The fragrant chicken rice goes well with the generous amount of crunchy fried batter. It’s a pity that the sambal is too sweet. Would love to have more fiery kick. The bedegil was a bit soggy maybe because I went near their closing time. Sambal Quail eggs were nice. The soup is very flavourful and taste like Mee Soto but too salty for me. Portions are big and worth the price!
