Didn’t expect to see the store in the lobby of the hotel. A good opportunity for the guests to enjoy traditional Singapore style breakfast. Place was still considered clean, though there were some empty dishes due to the customers not clearing it. There were ample seats for the guests. Prices were still acceptable. There was only 1 staff managing the store. Have to salute the staff for able to run the store alone. Great experience having a cup of tea in the hotel lobby.
View on GoogleUpon checking into the hotel, I decided to stop by Killiney at Stevens for a quick, convenient meal. Killiney is traditionally a brand known for its heritage, so I eagerly ordered their supposedly famous Singapore Laksa alongside an iced coffee. Unfortunately, this particular outlet failed to live up to the franchise's reputation. While laksa is a celebrated dish worldwide, the rendition served here was deeply underwhelming: The Broth: The soup base was merely average, lacking the rich, fragrant depth you expect from an authentic laksa. The Noodles: The texture missed the mark completely—they were noticeably undercooked and a bit too hard, falling well short of a pleasant al dente. The Accoutrements: Equally disappointing were the tofu items, which were also improperly cooked and hadn't been given sufficient time to soak in the savory gravy. The entire bowl gave off the distinct impression of being rushed together at the last minute, with very little care or attention paid to basic food preparation. While it stands as one of the more budget-friendly dining options available right inside the hotel building, the lower price point doesn't excuse the lack of quality. If you are looking for a true taste of Singapore's vibrant culinary heritage, you may want to skip this outlet. REBUTTAL RESPONSE TO THE OWNER: Thank you for taking the time to reply to my review. However, I must clarify that my critique was explicitly grounded in a specific, real-time dining experience at your Stevens outlet on that particular afternoon. Asserting a blanket claim that your establishment "always receives rave reviews" does not invalidate the concrete culinary errors served in my bowl: namely, an uninspired broth lacking aromatic complexity, noticeably undercooked noodles, and poorly integrated accoutrements. As an active Google reviewer with a substantial footprint, I approach F&B critiques with strict objectivity. My evaluation framework is entirely fair: excellence is commended, and mediocrity is called out exactly as it is presented. I do not sugarcoat reality, because local food heritage deserves precision. Having sampled, analyzed, and enjoyed Singaporean Laksa over several decades, my palate is highly attuned to the delicate balance of spices, coconut richness, and noodle texture that defines an authentic execution. What I was served fell quantifiably short of that standard. Furthermore, referencing historical praise to deflect real-time shortcomings is a flawed defensive strategy. A objective glance at the data across various Killiney outlets reveals a clear pattern of public consensus that aligns closely with my experience. Across your network, between 30% to 35% of documented reviews sit comfortably in the mediocre-to-poor categories, with a massive concentration of complaints specifically targeting inconsistent starch preparation, rushed assembly, and diluted gravies. Food reviews are inherently a reflection of personal experience on a given day. Rather than countering direct, constructive feedback with generalized claims of perfection, I would gently suggest that your management addresses day-to-day kitchen execution and quality control. Consistency is what honors a legacy brand, not defensiveness.
