We had an gd early dinner here before the crowds came in, and overall it was a very pleasant experience! 😊✨ The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of a heritage building Clarke Quay. The interior has a classy, old-school Chinese restaurant feel and looks quite posh. 🏮✨ However, the entrance on the first floor was not very obvious, so a clearer sign or restaurant logo would definitely help 1st-time visitors! 👀 A special mention to the senior lady staff who served us — she was extremely kind, attentive + helpful, especially towards my mum! ❤️ When we arrived, she automatically noticed that my mum might have difficulty taking the stairs and offered to bring us up using the cargo/service lift, which was very thoughtful and helpful 🙏🏻 The back-of-house walkway leading to the lift could use a little more cleaning though, as the floor felt slightly oily. Definitely something that could be improved! 👍🏻 ❤️ She really served with heart and made sure we were comfortable throughout our meal. Her warm and genuine service definitely stood out! 🌟 Food-wise, not bad! 😋 We especially enjoyed the deep-fried buns with chilli crab sauce! 🌶️🥯 The prawns in the claypot prawn vermicelli were fresh 🦐, and we also had e-fu noodles with Peking duck 🦆 meat. We also ordered veggies 🥬 and popcorn chicken 🍿🐔! We skipped dessert because we were already too full! 😂 Surprisingly, despite being in a touristy part of town and having quite a posh atmosphere, the prices were relatively reasonable considering the BIG portion sizes! 💰👍🏻 There wasn’t any music when we visited, perhaps because they had just opened for dinner and we arrived during the off-peak period. Quite peaceful actually! 😜 Overall, a nice dining experience with good food, generous portions and especially warm service! ❤️😊

Came for a late weekend lunch and was surprised at how empty it was even after factoring in the end of the lunch peak hour. Coupled with the fact that the entrance on the first floor looked quite upscale and a tad intimidating for passerbys to wander in freely, this might also have been a contributing factor. This somehow coincides with its name which means secret in Mandarin and that this place is known only to those who are in the know or bother to see it out. The decor on the second floor looked classy and unique in the sense that it did not use louder colours typical of an old-school Chinese restaurant despite being housed in a heritage building in Clarke Quay. Those with mobility issues might find access to the second floor being an issue though because the lift is actually at the entrance facing the river rather than the one at the central water fountain. And the lift in question isn't really meant for customers to begin with because I had to cut through a narrow path going past the kitchen and bar. Not exactly pleasant to have to do this prior to the meal especially when I had to walk past someone (didn't look like the restaurant's staff) who was smoking at the side of the path. Thanks to the staff's guidance, I could navigate the confusing path leading to the restaurant but to get help in the first place, you might need someone in your party to go up and inform the staff first since we didn't spot anyone on the first floor after some time. And when it rained after we finished the meal, the reluctance to navigate that lift access path again meant that it was a long and painful descent down the stairs just to get out of the building without being rained on. In terms of food, there were a number of dishes which won the praise of everyone in the group i.e. the signature chicken on fire (on promotional price of $8), the crab meat on tofu, claypot prawn vermicelli and seafood e-fu noodles. Especially for the chicken, the aroma of the rose wine and flavourful meat (even the usually tougher breast meat) were pretty impressive. For the xiaolongbao and red bean pancake, they were decent but didn't have a wow factor. Surprisingly, even though this restaurant is located in a touristy area in town and looks very posh, prices were relatively reasonable given the hearty portion sizes and fine visual presentation of the dishes. And it certainly helped that there were promotions for specific dishes which helped to keep the prices lower than the norm. In a nutshell, this is a place which is worth exploring for the sake of its food and the attentive service of the staff but the lack of access suitable for those with mobility issues is something that cannot be ignored completely at the same time.

Visited on a Sunday night for dinner and was surprised that the restaurant was pretty empty. Food quality, however, was good and worth a try. The plating was done well, the dishes looked more upscale and expensive than it actually was. Service was decent. The black pepper beef was well-seasoned and tender — one of the highlights of the meal. The prawn mee sua also tasted great, and the prawns were fresh. The “chicken on fire” was average in comparison; it wasn’t bad, but I’ve had better elsewhere.
