daal was nice and flavorful, and the portions are generous — great value for what you pay. We found the service okay — staff were polite, but at times there seemed more focus on hinting what to order rather than actively serving.  Food is fresh and tasty, with authentic South Indian flavours and good quantity. Some items like sambar could be better, but the core dishes shine.  Ambience is simple and clean, perfect for a casual meal. Worth a visit if you want hearty South Indian food that fills you up!

Walked Boat quay a few times and settled on this spot. It was more crowded than most and seemed to be filled with mainly locals. Food was amazing, service was fantastic, and of course the view/ambiance was spectacular. Asked the server for recommendations and he did not disappoint. My only negative was the price. It was quite high but for the area I can understand. Either way, if you are around Boat Quay give them a go, you’ll be glad you did.

Shahi Maharaja (शाही महाराजा) offers a wonderful balance between a great place for drinks and a warm, family-themed restaurant. It has that royal North Indian touch without feeling too formal or intimidating. We initially went in for drinks, and the bar did not disappoint. The drink selection was solid and paired really well with the rich flavours of the food. What stood out most was how family-oriented the place felt—comfortable seating, a calm atmosphere, and staff who were genuinely attentive to everyone at the table. The food was excellent and authentically North Indian. The gravies were flavourful and well-spiced, the breads were fresh and fluffy, and the portions were satisfying. As a nice surprise, the staff even offered us a free side dish on the house, which really showed their hospitality and customer-first attitude. It wasn’t just a small gesture—it added to the overall experience and made us feel genuinely welcomed. Service throughout the visit was friendly, professional, and thoughtful. The staff checked in at the right moments and made sure everything was perfect without rushing us. Overall, Shahi Maharaja is a fantastic spot whether you’re coming with family, enjoying drinks, or just craving authentic North Indian cuisine with great service. The complimentary side was a lovely bonus, and I’ll definitely be coming back again.

Visited this place at Boat Quay after being invited in by a friendly guy, and I’m glad we went. We stopped by for drinks and the cocktails were really good. The mango lassi was especially nice. Had a beer bucket for $24 The staff were friendly and welcoming, the naan was tasty and affordable, and the view was amazing. Overall, a great spot for drinks and a relaxed time by the river. Will definitely come back again.

Great food, thoroughly enjoyed it. Very reasonably priced.
