TLDR: clean outlet (rare for mala tang), good late-night option, decent variety, nice staff who actually served the food to me, but aircon a bit weak and no Visa/Master payment accepted. First time visiting this Zhang Liang Mala Tang outlet after a late nail appointment — reached around 9:50pm and thank god they close at 11:30pm. For all my late-night people, this is actually a solid spot for mala tang / mala xiang guo when most places are already closing. The ingredient selection is pretty decent and, most importantly, the place was CLEAN. Saying this because I’ve been to a few other outlets that were… borderline questionable 😭 so this was a very pleasant surprise. Minimum order is 300g, standard across most Zhang Liang Mala Tang branches, so just don’t get too excited (the grams really add up fast 💸). It’s self-service — pick your ingredients, pay, and collect with a buzzer. Waited about 10–12 minutes as there was a big order before me, which is fair. BUT what surprised me was that the staff actually brought my bowl over instead of me collecting it myself — first time experiencing this at Zhang Liang and honestly… small gesture but deeply appreciated! One thing though — not sure if it’s because I went late, but the aircon was almost non-existent 😅 I was literally sweating halfway through my meal (and I was wearing a distressed top… ventilation already there ok). Also take note: they currently don’t accept Visa/Master here, so come prepared. Overall, great food, clean environment, and unexpectedly fantastic service. Definitely one of the better Zhang Liang outlets I’ve been to 👍
View on GoogleFood was not as good as expected, the meat was way too overcooked and the mala tang broth was lacking in flavour. The plastic bowl used to contain our ingredients smelled weird like it wasn't washed/wiped properly. We felt that the food was slightly overpriced compared to other mala restaurants and would recommend customers to seek out cheaper restaurants if you are looking to make your money's worth. Food aside, the service was great and our food arrived on time, the restaurant was very clean too.
View on GoogleStir fry garlic (dry) is nice, especially for the noodles! Mushroom soup is nice too. ~$18-$20 per person (but depends on how much ingredients you take) but worth it for the soup. Sauces have the standard but don't have fried shallots or garlic :( but this is consistent with all their branches. Was quite crowded during normal dinner time.
View on GoogleI’m super conflicted whether to write this or not :( I love this restaurant, but I came today around 6pm, was happy to satisfy my cravings and ended up not even able to finish my food at all… I ordered the dry one, asked for Xiao La, but when the food came it was sooooo spicy until my boyfriend who loves spicy food so shocked, because it’s super spicy to him… we decided to clarify, but without even checking with the chef or anything, she immediately said “it’s xiao la” with no room to debate… we didn’t want to make a scene because it’s quite crowded and also the person before us already asked for exchange because too spicy… we decided to just sit down and write this review, hoping someone higher up will notice and check the cooking consistency since we don’t have the capacity to do so. I hope it will be resolved the next time we come back 🙏🏻
View on GoogleGreat service and really good mala tang! The only downside is that they don't accept credit cards, even though I saw the AMEX sign right on their main door 🙄 Make sure to bring cash or alternative payment methods just in case.
