I was honestly very disappointed with my visit to Chong Qing Grilled Fish at Bugis Street. I was hoping for a pleasant surprise, but the grilled fish did not taste anything close to the versions I’ve had in China, or even some of the more popular ones in Singapore. The sauce was watery, salty and bland, with very little depth or flavour. Since I was dining alone, I ordered the half portion, but the fish itself had very little meat and the overall taste just wasn’t there. What really frustrated me was the add-ons. I paid $5.80 for luncheon meat, which felt extravagant for the way it was served. It was not deep-fried, not even lightly fried, just cut into irregular thick and thin pieces and thrown into the dish. For that price, I expected at least some basic preparation or care. The $6.80 pineapple iced tea was also absolutely ludicrous. It tasted like a whole jar of sweet water, with barely any pineapple tea flavour. Service was slow too. I had to ask for my drink after sitting down for around 20 minutes, and the food took quite a while to arrive. They also do not serve water, so you’re basically pushed toward ordering their overpriced drinks. Overall, I really struggled to find anything positive about this meal. Poor value, slow service and very underwhelming food. A real shame.
View on GoogleWent here with my college friends whe were working here in Singapore. I thought they were only exaggerating when they mentioned the thing about the chili peppers. They ordered mild spicy fish stew, which is served with its built-in heater. Also ordered calamari (forgot the actual name since they were the ones who ordered it), tiger prawnsin cereals, satay veggies and some Tiger beer. I was quite surprised when the fish arrived, then the satay veggies and the calamari and some rice. Perfect for catching up and hanging out with friends over a couple of beers. You wouldn't notice the spice, although it is really spicy overall. Your taste buds will keep looking for that sting in your tongue and that warmth in your chest. The calamari was perfect with beer and the satay veggies was a nice appetizer and fiber as well. The tiger prawns arrived a little late that when it did arrived, we were all quite full with the other dishes. Overall, we were quite satisfied with the experience. Especially since we were tourists and most of its customers are locals, which says a lot about the place.
View on GoogleThe grilled fish here is absolutely delicious — perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and truly the star of the menu. The food is authentic, with a wide variety of dishes that are all worth trying. I especially recommend the signature grilled fish, which comes with a wonderful balance of spices and aroma that keeps you wanting more. The staff are very friendly and attentive, making the whole dining experience comfortable and welcoming. The atmosphere is lively yet cozy, perfect for both family and friends. Pricing is very reasonable for the quality and portion size. You definitely get great value here. Love the taste, love the service, and I will surely come back again. Highly recommended for authentic Chinese food

View on GoogleGood service recovery. We were given a free drink cos a staff knocked into my friend's elbow with a chair. Haha though I think it would have been better to be accident free. Friendly staff took time and effort to introduce their signatures. Taste is good. Seems more worth it to order their buffer and free flow drinks. For the fish, it comes with basic cabbage and bean sprouts, you would need to add ingredients at additional costs. French bean was nice. Sweet sour pork was average. Cost : about $100 for two pax
