If you’re an unagi person, please come to Chikiyotei! While the menu isn’t huge, it is definitely a focused one, specialising in unagi and the many ways it can be paired and enjoyed. Chef Paul, behind the counter, was personable and very knowledgeable about the food the restaurant prepares and offers. He shared so much with me about unagi—from its preparation to the various ways of enjoying it. It was fascinating to learn more about this humble yet versatile ingredient. The serving team was immaculately dressed, polite, gentle and attentive throughout. This was an absolutely wonderful experience for me. I will definitely return for the omakase, as recommended by Chef Paul. 🥰
View on GoogleFrom the serene ambiance to the impeccable service and, most importantly, the extraordinary food, our dinner at Chikuyotei at the Intercontinental Singapore was nothing short of perfection. It was a culinary journey that surpassed all expectations. While every dish was prepared with remarkable skill, a few were truly transcendent. The Kagoshima Wagyu Beef Steak served with a lava stone was a showstopper. The marbling was exquisite, and being able to sear each sublime slice to our preferred doneness on the hot stone was both interactive and ensured every bite was piping hot and melt-in-your-mouth tender. An absolute masterpiece. The Unagi (Grilled Eel) set, served with clear soup and rice, showcased classic Japanese technique at its finest. The eel was flawlessly grilled—yielding, smoky-sweet, and without a hint of bitterness. The harmony of the delicate soup and perfectly seasoned rice completed a profoundly satisfying meal. Another highlight was the Kagoshima Black Pork Cutlet. The crust was shatteringly crisp and light, while the pork inside was unbelievably juicy and flavourful, a testament to the superior quality of the ingredient. It redefined what a tonkatsu can be. The attention to detail throughout the experience was remarkable, from the knowledgeable and attentive staff to the beautiful presentation of each course. Chikuyotei doesn't just serve food; they craft memorable moments. This was, without a doubt, one of the finest Japanese meals we've had in Singapore. We left not just full, but truly delighted. An impeccable experience worthy of the highest praise. We cannot wait to return. Standouts: The interactive Wagyu on lava stone, the impeccable Unagi, and the sublime Black Pork Cutlet.
View on GoogleI’m from Japan, this restaurant is 100% authentic - I honestly felt like I was back home. They have an impressive sake selection, from Dassai 45–23 to Kokuryu and Tatenogawa, and even serve プレモル. The food was outstanding, and the atmosphere was excellent. Considering how difficult it is to import such rare sakes, I wouldn’t say the prices are unreasonable at all. It was delicious!!
View on GoogleFree-flow green tea was part of the service charge and the staff were so elegantly dressed in kimonos so it did feel like a mini Japan. The tableware were all thoughtfully planned out and absolutely exquisite. Food was delicious but not particularly fantastic. I have had other yummy omakase elsewhere at better prices, which featured more seasonal ingredients and could delight me with a new gastronomic experience. That said, their unagi with plum sauce was a match made in heaven and the dessert pudding was really nice👍
View on GoogleMade our much awaited visit to the restaurant. Managed to get a seat for walk in. Called but was told it was fully committed. Ambience was not bad but not as posh as the price of the dishes suggested. Foodwise, the unagi hitsumabushi was the star of the show. Unagi was grilled till flavour had been absorbed and was very delicious when paired with the rice and soup. Sukiyaki was not bad but the pork slices were too fatty for the portions we got.
