Visited Alex's Eating House recently after many years away from Singapore. This was actually one of the places I used to eat at before moving overseas, so I was looking forward to revisiting it. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite match the memories. I ordered the roast duck and soya sauce chicken rice combo. For me, one of the most important things at any roast meat shop isn't just the roasting technique or marinade, but how the meat is chopped and prepared for customers. That's where things went wrong here. The chopping was surprisingly rough, with meat attached to random bone fragments and small broken pieces of bone throughout the dish. I found myself constantly picking through the meat and chewing carefully, which took away a lot of the enjoyment. The sauce was another disappointment. It was generously poured over the rice and meat, but tasted overwhelmingly salty without much depth or complexity. Instead of enhancing the dish, it ended up overpowering everything else. Considering the quality of the meal, I also felt the pricing was on the expensive side. There was plenty of seating available before the office lunch crowd arrived, although I ended up sitting outside near the walkway which wasn't particularly comfortable. Service was functional. You place your order inside before finding a seat outside. The process worked fine, although it felt a little impersonal. Overall, this was a disappointing revisit. Perhaps nostalgia raised my expectations, but the food quality and execution simply weren't what I remembered.

Not crowded on Sat. Auntie was very friendly. She recommended me to order the soup and it was really so tasty and refreshing. Great choice to drink soup before eating the roast duck and rice. The amount of rice was a bit too much for me but I managed to finish as I had the soup. Very satisfying lunch.

Both roast pork and duck tasted average, but can be considered pricey. Friendly auntie who will order for you and bring it to your table. The eatery can be crowded, especially during lunch time. Environment was comfortable though.

Came once and now I’m a fan! Conveniently located at CBD area, great for working lunch. The price is at the high side, $8 for 双拼, but the meat is so juicy and full of flavour! Portion is huge too. You can also add $2 for the soup, I ordered the 猪肚汤 and there is so much meat inside. Will definitely become a frequent!

Saw that it’s crowded during weekday lunch so went to try. The char siew or sweet bbq pork tasted ok only, pretty tough meat and has a bit of pig smell. It’s those normal wanton mee charsiew standard. The sio bak or crispy pork belly is normal. Nothing fantastic. It’s chopped into cubic shape which makes it a bit too chunky for me. Flavour wise nothing to shout about. My wife has her roast duck and it’s one of the worst she’s tried. The gravy sauce actually made it worse. The egg is not bad though. The radish soup is $2 top up and ok quite nice. Price is $7-10 per plate. Not cheap. We will not return unless desperate.
