Had my first Yak Kin Mookata back when they were in Geylang. It was a great experience when they used charcoal for their grill. Even though they've removed the charcoal element now that they're in Bencoolen, I still find myself enjoying their generous portion in the aircon eating place. I think they can afford to increase their prices given their food quality and big portions! I love that they give special price for their Lala soup and fresh oysters if the customers order the Mookata set. But I don't think that's necessary. Good Mookata place! Everyone should try!
View on GoogleThe Mookata here is super palatable. The smoky aroma, fresh seafood, marinated chicken, vegetables, spicy and tangy chilies that is irresistible and end up eating more. Thai vibe from cuisine to menu, and songs. Broth is amazing and not salty. High recommended to try.
View on GoogleYak Kin Mookata at Sunshine Plaza brings back a lot of childhood memories for me. The mookata itself is pretty decent, but the serving size feels small for 2 to 3 pax. I finished the combo on my own in under 30 minutes and was still hungry. Service is straightforward and responsive. The marinated meats were tasty, but the rest were mostly sausages, mock crab sticks, fish cakes and similar fillers. Overall flavour was good, but the value wasn’t great.
View on GoogleLoved the lala hotpot, the soup is not overpowering and oily, I guess as it was not "fried in the wok and blazed up" which lessens on the oil in the pot. The lala soup is easy to drink and not salty too, doesn't feels that thirsty after drinking, usually we will only be able to drink 2,3 bowls of soup and will be feeling thirsty but however we drank more than that here. With the promo at $10 with it's generous portion of lala is definitely a must try! The lala are also fresh and doesn't have the "sandy" texture. The mookata is also not bad, the set portion is alot and generous, definitely enough for 3 pax to share, we over ordered on more side dishes and end up had trouble finishing especially the liver being a relatively big portion. The oysters promo is another not to miss item, the oyster is very big and fresh at $1.99 definitely satisfied! However do note after the building closes which was close when we reach around 1145pm, you won't have toilet to use which was quite a shock as we didn't know at all and wasn't informed by the staff, halfway through eating, my friend urgently need to use the restroom and realise nearest restroom had to go opposite till GRID or peace centre just to use the toilet, it was shocking as it was in deed a distance away and luckily it wasnt raining. If it was raining, I couldn't imagine the outcome of it being urgent halfway through and no toilet to use at all... Can imagine drinkers drinking beer halfway and need to use toilet...gotta walk 5-8mins to opposite mall down the road, if raining won't be able to cross over at all.. with this issue, we had came to a conclusion that we won't come here after midnight especially for drinks. Service was quite bad though, only a aunty staff serving, 3 younger guy staff was just inside the kitchen area leaving one aunty staff with also a injured leg serving. We waited quite long for the food, cutleries and sauces. The aunty at first told us if we want to blazed up the hotpot need to wait for the guy staff so we said ok and after 10mins the aunty came back and told us his still busy, the restaurant had only us and another table when we came....end up the aunty just set up the lala pot and told us if don't want wait longer can just start without blazing the pot. Food is good definitely however the service and issues makes the experience rather disappointing.
View on GoogleOrdered mookata set (2-3pax) and add on ala carte. Items were fresh, the place is clean and the auntie staff is friendly and has good service. They have indoor and outdoor seats. Apart from mookata menu, they have cooked thai food too. Im impressed they can slice the pork liver so thinly. Their chilli taste good.
