In Uncle Rong's own words, the highest level of culinary success is when Bak Kut Teh becomes a dish prepared "using your own heart and soul". The soup broth has to go over the fire for many hours for the collagen and other properties to infuse from the big bones.

Had lunch at Rong Hua Bak Kut Teh at Fusionopolis, and unfortunately it was a rather disappointing experience. The lunch crowd was decent, but despite requesting a round table for three, we were seated at a small square table, making it quite cramped once all the dishes arrived. The biggest letdown was the bak kut teh itself. The broth lacked the signature peppery aroma and robust pork rib flavour that defines a good Teochew-style bak kut teh. It tasted bland and felt as though it hadn’t been simmered long enough to develop the richness expected from a well-made broth. We also ordered the pig’s stomach soup, pig tail soup, braised pig intestines and braised bean curd skin. While the ingredients were tender enough, they lacked flavour and didn’t seem to have absorbed the broth or braising sauce. It almost felt as though the meats had been cooked separately and only combined with the soup or sauce just before serving, resulting in dishes that tasted disconnected rather than well infused. Even the salted vegetables were underwhelming. They lacked the savoury punch that usually complements bak kut teh, making me wonder if they had forgotten the salt altogether or simply hadn’t simmered them long enough for the flavours to develop. Overall, the meal lacked the depth and comforting flavours that make bak kut teh so satisfying. With so many excellent bak kut teh options in Singapore, this was one that I probably wouldn’t return to. A disappointing lunch experience.

Visited Rong Hua Bak Kut Teh recently and ordered the basic set meal which came with pork rib soup, salted vegetables, barley and white rice. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing overall. The bak kut teh soup lacked depth and tasted rather bland compared to what you would expect from a good peppery herbal broth. The pork ribs also did not taste particularly fresh, and the rice was overcooked and mushy. The salted vegetables were average and did little to elevate the meal. The only food item that stood out positively was the stir-fried kai lan, which was beautifully executed — fresh, crunchy and well-seasoned. Easily the highlight of the meal. What affected the experience most, however, was the service. A staff member named Jessie (with a ponytail) repeatedly ignored me while I was waiting to be seated, despite many empty tables available. I eventually had to call across the restaurant to ask if I could sit down. Even after being seated, no one came to provide a menu or explain the ordering process. I had to ask again before being reluctantly pointed towards the ordering counter. The restaurant wasn’t packed, only 3 tables were occupied. With food and service standards like this, it may be difficult for the restaurant to retain customers in the long run.

Came at the right time and after the lunch crowd. Had the whole place to myself and my dad. Ordered 1 bowl each of the regular bak kuh teh and it didn't disappoint. 2 huge pieces of spare pork ribs with a huge garlic bulb. Ordered 1 bowl of the pigs tail with side condiments of salted vegetables and fried dough sticks. Top up with 2 lime juice as the barley was sold out. Staff was very attentive ( Being only 2 of us) and friendly. Food quality was excellent and nice. Only thing if the pork ribs can be slightly softer and tender would be nice. Overall, I will come back again.

Apr'26. Went on evening which is quite empty, we went in and it took them some time before attending us with the menu, more than one staff walk around but seem like waiting for a designated person to do the job (my feel). Food is ok but side dishes are selling like main dish price (relatively larger portion too), i love to have few small dishes to go with my bak kut teh but I didnt order any bcos of the portion.

One of the best Bak Kut Teh I’ve had in Singapore! The soup is rich and flavorful without being too salty, and the pork is tender and delicious. The side dishes are fresh, and everything tasted great. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made the dining experience even better. The restaurant is clean and comfortable too. Definitely worth coming back again. Highly recommended!
