An improved place since the last visit 5 months ago. We came for the Sri Lankan Nasi Briyani bcz good reviews were given. The new coffee joint also serves very nice coffee.

After seeing some posts and reviews, I decided to come and try it. I must admit and say it is indeed one of the better Nasi Briyani, I had the past weeks .... comparing with those that I tried sometimes back at Tekke Martket .... this is at the different level. I had the Mutton masala briyani (chef recommendation) it was really good ... the briyani rice was fragrant and not oily ... the mutton masala, the mutton was tender flavorful. Next round I will try their best seller Nasi Briyani with their Fried Chicken

Mei Ling Market & Food Centre may not be well known among foodie circles, but it’s truly a hidden gem. The place is quiet, well-ventilated, and comfortable even during peak hours. Best of all, you can still find cheap, delicious, and affordable local fare here. If you’re around Queenstown, it’s just a short walk from the MRT — perfect for a no-frills, satisfying hawker meal away from the crowds and plenty of seats.

The rating for Mei Ling Market is rather spot on. I would rate this a 3.85. The food centre is rather quaint and gives off an old school vibe similar to that of tiong bahru. There are murals to be found in the hawker centre, and there are some pretty interesting options to choose from. For example, the gula melaka soya beancurd, the beef brisket noodles and the chinese/western/japanese fusion curry rice. There is even a stall selling fishball noodles that drew a chord with me, as their signboard shows a wolf herring(西刀鱼) also known as saito to the locals. It is said that fishballs made from this fish are of good quality and fishballs used to be made from this fish in the past. Unfortunately, I have yet to taste their noodles. To date, I have not eaten anything bad in this hawker centre. The hawker centre is also very airy and spacious, and could be the best ventilated hawker centre in Singapore. I might have well stumbled on my favourite hawker centre in the Queenstown/Alexandra area.
