Maze Soba Hototogisu specializes in Japanese soba, ramen, and rice sets, as suggested by its name. I decided to try their chicken cutlet maze soba set, priced at $16.90. Ordering is done conveniently via a QR menu, and the set allows customization with sauces such as negi, shoyu, or spicy. It also includes a side and a drink, making the price fairly reasonable. I opted for gyoza as my side. The soba set arrived with a perfectly fried chicken cutlet, a runny sunny-side-up egg, minced pork, spring onions, and soba noodles. The chicken cutlet was the highlight of the dish—crispy, well-seasoned, and expertly fried. The runny egg mixed beautifully with the noodles, adding richness. However, the combination of the sauce and minced pork made the noodles a bit too wet for my liking, though this might suit other preferences. The noodles' texture leaned towards the harder side (not springy), which detracted slightly from the overall experience. The gyoza, while decent, was fairly standard and nothing memorable. The restaurant itself is well-lit and spacious, with ample seating, which is a plus. The staff were polite, and the food was served promptly. Overall, the food and atmosphere were good, but for this price point, there are likely better options available. 7/10.
View on GoogleHad a bad tummyache after I ate the chicken hamburg mazesoba. service was lacking. chicken karaage was forgotten and called the waiter/waitresses many times for drinks but they keep forgetting. when i flipped the hamburg to look at its other side it wasnt cooked thoroughly. tasted horrible. not worth $18.90. small soup tasted like chicken rice soup. tea wasnt hot. had to self serve because they keep forgetting we asked for water. so much for service charge. mazesoba was below average. wont come again.
View on GoogleNice Soba Looking at the reviews, this place seems to perform highly inconsistently. I had the chicken hamburger noodles with level 1 spicy. It is a dry soba dish. It was delightful. The fried tofu was done to perfection. The skin was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and served piping hot. The accompanying soup was alright. Great food overall. Tasted a lot better than they looked. The service staff appeared attentive but probably did not understand how guests expect to be served. As I went in late for lunch and the place was not so crowded, they spoke very loudly to each other as if no one was there. They also moved things very loudly. It was as if they were serving in low end hawker food centre and suddenly offered a better job at this restaurant. Some training could help. The tables were not wide enough. With the box of chopsticks and sauces put on one side of the the table, there was not enough space for 2 persons to have their meal on. Some refinement and consistency should help this restaurant get out of the 3 star rating. Guess I was one of the luckier ones.
View on GoogleWalked around this newly minted mall and found this maze soba place amidst all the other food (especially Japanese) eateries. It's a rather small restaurant, the decor was simple and the air conditioning was working too well. (actually, the aircon in this mall especially at Cs fresh was working way too well. Thanks to Cs fresh for the winter memories). Back to the review, as I cooly digress. 3 persons, ordered chicken soba, with the red aburi spicy noodles and a spicy level of 3 (out of 3). Delicious and not as spicy as I expected. Was prepared to sweat my brows and drip down my sideburns but this wasn't the case. Even added some chilli oil, vinegar and chilli flakes. But all in all a satisfying bowl of noodles. The lovely, delicate egg mixed throughout the bowl of (rather textured, read tough) noodles lent a silky coating over the chewy noodles. I kinda prefer my noodles softer but my dining companion commented that it's probably done that way. One dining companion has the suki don. Finished it before my soba arrived. 3rd companion had the prawn soba with shoya noodles. We had one serving of their delicious fried chicken with cold tea, as part of the set. Loved the penguin motifs around the restaurant. All in all a very satisfying meal.
View on GoogleMazesoba Hototogisu at Holland Village offers a reasonable dining option with a set that includes a bowl of ramen topped with teriyaki chicken cubes, refillable hojicha, a side dish, and soup. The taste is standard and matches the average price point. I visited on a Friday with friends, and the atmosphere was lively, although the space felt a bit congested, and there’s high chairs in services. Overall, it’s a good spot for casual gatherings, offering reasonable service, atmosphere, and value. Great for a fun outing with friends! 2 🌟- Below average, need improve 3🌟 - standard, average 4 🌟- standard, above average 5 🌟- Special & Unique
