Nothing hits the spot quite like a hot bowl of Bak Chor Mee on a rainy afternoon, but this visit left a lot to be desired. Craving that comforting combination of minced pork, sliced liver, and springy noodles, the initial presentation certainly looked promising as it arrived steaming at the table. However, taking the first sip of the soup was an immediate letdown. Instead of a rich, deeply savory pork bone broth, the soup was overwhelmingly saltish so heavy-handed on the seasoning that it completely masked any natural sweetness from the pork or mushrooms. The intensity of the salt coated the palate right away, making it difficult to enjoy the subtle flavors of the dish. While the noodles retained a decent texture and the minced meat portions were generous enough, every attempt to balance out the bites with a spoonful of broth only reinforced the harsh salinity. Pairing salt-heavy soup with already seasoned dry-style noodles quickly became a chore rather than a comfort meal. Bak Chor Mee relies heavily on the delicate balance between savory chili, and a well-rounded broth to tie everything together. Unfortunately, when the soup turns out this aggressive, it throws the entire bowl out of harmony.

Blk 117 Commonwealth Drive is a row of shophouses built in 1965 and has one of my favourite old coffeeshops. The most popular stall is Eng Kee economy bee hoon and their famous chicken wings. The other two stalls are like childhood comfort food for me, providing cheap and good food - fishball noodles and roast meat rice stall. #singaporecoffeeshops #sghawkerfood #sgheritage

A very old school hawker selling one of the best and more genuine chicken wings. Even though I am not a fan of wings, I must say that you can taste they are made fresh. The noodles and the veggies are also decent, even tough, but too oily. We also tried the other that was freshly barbecued, but it was a bit too spicy for my taste.

Coffee was good. Toast has very little butter and kaya. Eggs have to timed 7 mins on your own in the boiling water and you open the eggs yourself after that. If waited too long then the eggs might be overcooked.

Love the fried chicken wing after I was 1st introduced to this place 10yrs back. Only down side is you'll have to pack the flavourful chilli sauce yourself. Which i think is fun to do. Hahaha. And also the bee hoon & kway teow noodles serving is big. 1 pack is enough for me n my Mrs. Worth the queue for sure.
