Walk in on a Sunday morning at around 10am and waiting time is around 5 minute to be seated. The restaurant is quite spacious and most of the tables are being occupied. Upon seated the service staff gave us a menu ordering card which can self order from the push cart. There are steam dim sum, fried dim sum, porridge, chee cheong fun and dessert push carts. Tried the Deep Fried Crab Ravoli, Paper Wrapped Chicken, Mini Octopus, Pig Trotter in Black Vinegar, Prawn Dumpling, Siu Mai, Chicken Feet, Pork Rips, Chee Cheong Fun, Baked Char Siu Pie, all are nice and tasty. The Glutinous Rice with Chicken and Chinese sausage are sticky and not too oily, taste good too. For dessert, tried Herbal Jelly, Longan Almond Pudding, Osmanthus Jelly and Cream of Mango with Pomelo taste good and flavourful. There are also roast specialties and live seafood available. Service staff are very courteous and friendly. Overall experience is pleasant as big and spacious environment with plenty of tables seating.
View on GoogleThis is a true 老字号 (established brand). Our family loves the spaciousness and atmosphere of the restaurant, esp. the traditional push-cart dim sum. It feels incredibly relaxed for a weekday brunch. We visited on a Monday morning at 11am, so no reservations were needed. Do note that reservation can be done on their website, but it’ll not be confirmed instantly. Tbh, the food quality has dipped over the years, considering the rising prices. You can definitely find better quality and more value-for-money dim sum elsewhere. In general, the steamed items are still the highlight. The fried dim sum is just average, and you can skip the porridge and roast meats. Most portion/items cost $6.30 each. However, the service from the staff is commendable, given their older age. Pls show them some grace and patience! Overall, I would still return for family gathering since the space is very accommodating for both the elderly and kids. And, of course, for a taste of nostalgia!
View on GoogleRed Star Restaurant located at Block 54 Chin Swee Rd, #07-23, Singapore 160054. They are the traditional push-cart service dim sum, old school place where some will hold event, have dim sum with family. We attended the uncle CNY dinner during CNY period. Food was great and awesome but the only feedback we have is the lift can only take up to 4 to 5 person, we are sitting at the VIP room and there's another event going on which is dame noisy and lastly 1 more feedback. The lady server that was assigned to us asked us orange juice, tea, red wine and end up we thought tea was complimentary but they charged us ....we can understand orange juice can be charge but should not keep asking tea + orange drink and end up charge us for every cup of tea and some of us didn't even consume the tea. So, be alert and check with them so that you will not bear the additional cost.
View on GoogleInteresting experience and the food is surprisingly good! Most items were very tasty, including prawn dumplings, beancurd roll etc. Carts came around often, and staff approaches if you look like you are searching for something. Sometimes they help you place orders from other places or look for the cart you want. Highlights: Bolo bun has real pineapple filling Shiobak came hot with crispy skin Siewmai tastes good and fresh Regrets: Lo mai kai rice is quite hard. Some items we really wanted were not available - sugarcane prawn, osmanthus jelly, honeydew sago
View on GoogleRed Star Dim Sum Restaurant is an older restaurant with classic ambience. It always had healthy crowd every time we went there, with quite a long queue. Fortunately, the queue moved fast. The restaurant doesn’t take reservation. They have table for all sizes. Red Star reminds me of Hong Kong dim sum restaurants. It’s a huge room setting with multiple big, round tables. We just need to sit down, order our drinks, and the dim sum carts would pass by occasionally. Sitting at the edge of the room means less cart traffics, but if you want anything, you can ask for the attendants to get it or they could ask the cart to come to you. The auntie who managed the century egg porridge cart was very friendly and patient, and the porridge was good. Siomay, chicken feet, and a couple of other items I couldn’t name were great. However, the char siew paw has strong coriander inside for who those who dislike it, and the steamed yam cake was horrible. It had this kind of smell that gave me impression it was steamed together with some meat item but not in a good way. The rest are good and tasty. The chrysanthemum tea was good, too. The room, although windowless, doesn’t feel stuffy although it looked that way. The price is reasonable. Overall, this is a decent place for family outing with many varieties of food to choose from. It also have ala carte menu.
