A quiet, almost forgotten plot of land that holds the graves of Mr Tan Tock Seng and his daughter-in-law. Largely overlooked by modern Singapore, the site feels like a hidden pocket of history amid the surrounding housing estates. It would be meaningful for older Singaporeans - or the descendants of those who benefited from his immense generosity - to visit occasionally and pay their respects to a man whose legacy continues to touch countless lives.

We have driven, rode, walked and even sat as a passenger here but didnt realise this area has key features of the past. Lets dive in! History: Singapore with its rich history has one key person who has his name engraved in everyone's lips. Chinese Pauper Hospital had its name changed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, is now one of the hospitals mentioned commonly by everyone. The name change in the past was due to a donation by the late Tan Tock Seng. This $5000 in 1844 is similar to an amount of more than $200k (CPI) now. It may sound small for some, but do note in the past, raw materials were lower too. Thus the amount would constitute to multi millions if compare using various other factors. Location: This area is actually quite hidden away from the eyes of those driving below, save for those on L2 of a double decker bus. Once the bus stops here, you can view it clearly. Located right at one corner of Outram, this area can be found right opposite a petrol station with a bridge right in front. Venue: In lieu of this being a grave, pls do make sure to keep your volume down and respect the area. The whole space is big, with another side being a marked grave as well. Late Mdm Chua, daughter in Law for late Tan Tock Seng is also buried nearby. All in all, we would recommend you to drop by and check out the place. Cheers!

My first time to visit this grave of TTS, The purpose of this visit was to audit the grave fengshui. Out of my surprise, none of his future generations have maintained the grave for so long. 😎

It was a solemn place. The grave looks majestic. The tombstone written in red ink. One the left wall of the grave is a simple writeup on the story of Tan Tock Seng the first asian Justice of Peace of Singapore. The grave is a piece of Singapore's history. The greatest of it all would how this grave lies in the middle of such a vibrant place full of continuing development.

Hidden from street level, Tan Tock Seng's grave is visible from across the road. It was unfortunately partly destroyed by road works. Closer to the pedestrian overhead bridge is the impressive double tomb of his daughter-in-law and her daughter-in-law.
