Visited for a dim sum lunch in Chinatown and overall had a pleasant experience. The restaurant was very busy during peak lunch hours, which speaks to its popularity, but it also meant the dining area felt quite crowded and noisy. The dim sum was generally good. The prawn dumplings were fresh and juicy, and the scallop pea-shoot dumplings had a nice texture. The beancurd rolls were well executed, while the prawn & mango sesame fritters offered a good balance of sweetness and crunch. The standout dish for me was the steamed herbal chicken leg, which was tender, flavourful and served in a rich herbal broth. Service was efficient and friendly despite the crowd, and the food arrived reasonably quickly. Prices are fair for the quality and location. A solid dim sum spot in Chinatown, though a slightly more comfortable dining environment would make the experience even better.
View on GoogleWe had our Sunday brunch here, and we’re glad it didn’t disappoint—well, mostly (except the egg tarts 😅). What we enjoyed: (1) BBQ Pork Bao – The char siew was flavourful, leaning slightly towards the sweeter side, and made with lean meat—so it didn’t feel overly greasy or jelak. (2) Fish Roe Siew Mai & Prawn Dumplings – Jumbo-sized dim sum that were both satisfying and delicious 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 (3) Prawn Wanton Crisp – Another generously sized dim sum, packed with juicy prawn and pork. Do note it contains spring onions, chives, and coriander—may not suit everyone. (4) Meat Dumplings in Chilli Oil – My wife loved this one (though not quite my personal favourite 😄). (5) Fried Carrot Cake – A standout for me! Not overly starchy, with bits of pork and dried shrimp, and nicely crisped on the outside—full of savoury, umami goodness. (6) BBQ Pork Rice Flour Roll – Another top pick from my wife. The rice roll was thin and smooth, paired well with the char siew filling 😋 Could be better: (1) Xiao Long Bao – Slightly over-seasoned; the soup filling was a bit too salty. (2) Filo Scallop Roll – Also leaned too salty, which masked the natural umami of the scallop. (3) Classic Ma Lai Gao – Looked the part, but the taste didn’t quite match expectations. A bit too sweet and lacked the classic flavour profile. (4) Baked Mini Egg Tarts – Unfortunately the biggest letdown. While they looked promising, they lacked the rich eggy flavour and instead tasted more like pandan egg tarts—quite unusual and not what we expected. Overall: What stood out most was that every basket of dim sum arrived piping hot 🔥, tasting freshly made—that’s a big win for us. The attentive and caring “Ah Ma” waitresses also added a warm, homely touch to the experience. A satisfying dim sum spot with some hits and a few misses, but definitely worth a visit for the freshness and hospitality!
View on GoogleYum Cha Restaurant is a nice spot when you’re craving traditional Hong Kong-style dim sum. There’s a good selection of classics like har gow, siu mai and cheong fun, perfect for ordering a few dishes to share over a pot of tea. The overall experience has that familiar yum cha feel and works especially well for a casual meal with friends or family. A good option when you’re in the mood for a traditional dim sum meal.
View on GoogleWe had a light breakfast earlier in the morning and decided to head here for brunch. I had visited this restaurant a couple of times in the past for its weekday high tea dim sum buffet, which I found to be quite satisfactory. For this visit, we ordered several dishes to share: Fish Roe Siew Mai, Prawn & Mango Sesame Fritters, BBQ Pork Rice Flour Roll, Century Egg Congee, BBQ Pork Bao, and the Classic Ma Lai Gao. The dishes were served within a reasonable timeframe, with a fairly consistent pace between each item. The Fish Roe Siew Mai lived up to expectations and remains a must-order whenever I visit a dim sum restaurant. The rice flour roll and congee were equally enjoyable, both well-executed and flavourful. The BBQ Pork Bao, however, was somewhat underwhelming, as the filling lacked the flavour profile I was expecting. The Classic Ma Lai Gao was a highlight, with just the right level of sweetness and a soft, spongy texture. The complimentary side dishes served at the start of the meal were a nice touch. The achar (pickled vegetables) was tangy and appetising, while the braised peanuts were rather bland. Both items were refillable. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. The main downside was the price, which has increased noticeably since my last visit several years ago. That said, the service more than made up for it. One of the elderly female staff members was particularly warm and attentive, and her friendly demeanour added a personal touch to the meal.
View on GoogleGood dim sum spot. Good tastes good and they often have unique creations, like a laksa chee cheong fun to commerorate national day (good flavour) or Otah Siew Mai (wasnt blown away by this). The classics all taste awesome (Siew Mai, Har Gow, Char Siew Pau, etc). Typical bustling chinese restaurant atmosphere. Service staff is busy but attentive and polite. A trusted brand that hasnt let me down for many years.
