Enjoyed this place. The space is a bit tight and limited, but it actually adds to the cosy, intimate vibe…great for a relaxed meal or catching up with friends. Food was consistently good. The sashimi was fresh and nicely plated, you can tell they focus on quality. The clam miso soup had a deeper flavour than usual, which was a nice surprise. Karaage came out hot, crispy on the outside and juicy inside…definitely a highlight. The katsu curry was super satisfying, with a crispy cutlet and rich, comforting curry that really hits the spot. Service was friendly and easygoing, which made the whole experience very comfortable. Overall, a good dining experience. Cosy space, good food, and a place I’d come back to 👍

Tucked away amidst the bustling, high-density dining strip of Telok Ayer, The Flying Squirrel stands out as an exceptionally cozy, intimate sushi bar. The food quality here is consistently high and features a thoughtfully innovative contemporary Japanese edge. We ordered their premium chirashi don, which arrived fully loaded with a generous selection of incredibly fresh, high-grade ingredients. What sets their chirashi apart is the meticulous execution of the sushi rice itself; clearly a focal point rather than an afterthought, which beautifully elevates the entire dish. That said, having a quiet, serene sanctuary to escape the heavy Amoy Street crowds is a luxury that comes with a premium price tag. The overall experience leans on the pricier side, especially if you are visiting with a massive appetite, but the quality and ambiance deliver.

Food took a very long time to be served. The last main dish arrived close to an hour after we ordered. My dish was the first to arrive, but out of courtesy we waited for everyone’s food before eating. Since mine was sushi, which is meant to be eaten cold and fresh, it didn’t taste as good after the long wait. Those who received their mains later, while still warm, mentioned that the food itself was actually quite good. I also wanted to highlight the experience with ordering water. We asked if the restaurant serves water as we were not intending to order drinks. The young waiter said yes, but did not inform us that it was chargeable. It would have been good practice to let customers know upfront if water comes with a charge. If we had known, we would not have ordered it. The bill showed $10 for water for 5 people, which I assume is about $2 per person before service charge and tax. Overall, while the food itself was good, the service really brought the experience down. The long wait and lack of transparency made it disappointing, and we agreed we probably would not return.

If you need a quick fix for sushi, this place serves decent sushi. The lighting is a little too bright for a romantic dinner, and also the uni bit on our signature maki roll was really not fresh and left a pungent taste. Otherwise the sushi pieces were quite adequate and the sashimi platter was not bad as well.

Quite the hidden sushi restaurant behind Amoy street . Do reserve if you have big groups. They have sushi and sashimi platters , tacos in a seaweed shell . Fried bites , wide variety of cocktails . TFS signature maki, 6 pieces each with different topping such as ebi, hotate , hamachi , salmon 5/5 Negitoro maki , minced tuna mixed with mayo n some sauce 5/5 Spicy tuna and yuzu flavoured ceviche tacos $18 for 2 pieces for each variety. The spicy tuna had a kick to it and topped with generous tobiko 5/5 Fried chicken karage 3/5 , over fried making it tough, not well seasoned , had to use mayo sauce for flavouring . Why rating is not 5/5 as after the meal, me and dining companion both felt super thirsty really not sure what is in the seasoning .
