Visited Telok Ayer Coffee Shop on a Saturday afternoon and decided to try the fishball noodles with minced chicken. The bowl also came with wantons, making it a satisfying meal. The flavours were well-balanced and comforting, with each ingredient complementing one another nicely. The chilli served on the side added a great kick of spice and really elevated the dish without overpowering it. Overall, a simple but delicious meal that hit the spot. Would love to come back again and have it another time!
View on GoogleLocated at the corner of the street, the coffee shop is not hard to miss. While the place looks newly renovated and brightly lit, seats are hard to find during lunch hour. Queues for most if not all the food stalls are also very long. Not a good choice if you are in a rush. We tried the Yong Tau Foo and Chicken kway teow soup here. While the kway teow soup was decent, I have to say that the Yong Tau Foo is not value for money at S$7.30. Most of the items are rather salty and for the few pieces of tofu and fish cake/fish ball, it is quite a rip off. The aunty manning the stall was very well mannered though. No sense of impatience even though there was a long line waiting. The only stall with possibly no queue in sight was the drinks stall. Unlike the usual neighbourhood coffee shops, the drinks stall in this coffee shop appears to have the worst business among all the other stalls. Do people here not consume liquids during their meals ? Doubt I will be back to try the other stalls.. considering there are other food options along the rest of the streets in the area.
View on GoogleOne of the cleanest and vintage design coffee shop i have been. I chanced upon this when i was looking for a lunch place. First, it is very clean. I thought it was new but 6 years now so the cleaning service staff and owner needs to be complimented. I tried laksa at $6.90 from the Tiong Bahru Fish Ball Stall. The laksa was the best I have eaten. The thickness and aroma of the gravy were perfect. Not too thick like katong laksa and not too thin like most hawker center stalls. I grade this perfecto for me! There were loads of fish cakes, wanton, egg, etc so it was clearly, a winner for value for money. I had paid for laksa at $8 but a few thin sliced fish cakes and thin gravy...sadly. I hope owner keep this price. The drink stall lady was friendly and polite too. I see her cleaning table, and the tray station passionately and i think she has her pride on her job. Others i had seen using 1 dirty cloth to clean various tables and never even change or turn over cloth each time. Omg! They do not teach cleaners how to clean tables. One cloth cannot clean 3 to 4 tables at the same time. So i give this coffee shop 5 stars. It should be a model for all other coffee shops. I did not use the toilets so not sure about the cleanliness there. Good laksa. Worth a visit. Weekdats should be busy but weekends Saturday ok. Sunday may be closed. Nearest MRT is Telok Ayer downtownt line. About 150m. This area is good to walk about after lunch. Many restaurants, bars and cafe It comes alive after 6pm. Be careful crossing cos many side streets.
View on GoogleUnbelievable experience: If you really lack of sleep and need a good perk me up shock with a best scolding service for saying nothing at all, then go for it. The worst morning I've ever had, even diagnosed with terminal cancer, don't stir my emotion this much. Merely stare into the cup of tea with milk with oil or custard like layer thinking whether I should accept and drink it due to my poor health, I immediately get a loud telling off to stir the drink with zero comment or words from my mouth. She grabbed the drink and stirred it vigorously and ended up still the same. I continued to look at the cup. She snatched and changed another, slightly better, but still have 50% of the same. I reluctantly took it and advised her nicely. "Don't have to be so angry." I hope you have a nice day. This is a place that guarantees a 'perk- me-up'. Great before work commences. Just stare at your drinks and speak no words.
View on GoogleCommon coffee shop in Singapore. This place is opposite the famous THK temple. There is a vegetarian stall here too. I had a cup of iced tea and the cleaner was standing right beside me, waiting to clean up the table. I think it was rush hour and he does not want me to occupy the whole table by myself. So I left within minutes. Just a random guess.
