We saw our friend's post in FB and decided to try out this restaurant. Fortunately we came early and managed to get a seat without waiting as a small queue formed shortly. The restaurant looked newly renovated and was well ventilated, food smell did not stain our hair or clothes after we left. We ordered a few dishes, fried pork belly, royal cheese prawn beehoon, tuckshop rice, braised trotter rice, sour plum drink and teh c drink. We didnt like our drinks too much, sour plum drink was too overwhelming with sour plum powder, was a bit too sweet. Teh C was not rich enough. Good thing the taste of the food was good. I enjoyed the tiny bowl of tuckshop rice because of the blend of taste between the dark sauce, egg yolk, garlic fried bits and fried belly. The fried pork belly dish was not too bad, the pork crackled as you bit onto it, it wasn't overly salty nor sweet. I love the braised trotter rice as the meat and skin were tender and overall taste was good but I didnt like the chilli sauce that came with it. The gigantic bowl of Royal cheese prawn beehoon was savoury at the beginning as the cheese gravy was thick with rich prawn taste, but it was quite jerlat at the end. The abalone was also the usual kind of qq and rubbery texture and the freshness of the giant prawns were acceptable too, it could be better. Overall, I still think dining here was quite value for money since the prices were reasonable and did not include ++ surcharges. I would still go back and try other dishes or order the braised trotter rice again. Would recommend you to try if you are in this area.
View on GoogleGood food overall. Prawns were fresh and soup was savoury. Maybe a bit too heavy for me but overall it's good. Loved the river with egg. Simple dish cooked to perfection. The Yong toufu brings a nice balance to the palate after trying the heavy cheese soup. Ambience is odd,b with classic deco and smoothing spa music but the place was buzzing and noisy as hell.
View on GoogleHappened by this place while looking for lunch with a friend and it seems like we've made a solid choice! Each dish was a lovely delight that perfectly balanced between bold yet subtle flavours. Their unique menu will leave you spoilt for choice! The Gold Bar Cheese Bee Hoon was one of the more interesting dishes I've had in awhile where every element of it complimented each other well and blends together perfectly. The Beef Rice was an absolute flavour bomb with each bite leaving you wanting more. Last but not the least, the Sesame Buns, in our opinion, had been the absolute highlight of our meal. Each bun had a crispy exterior with a soft, pillowy interior. Match that with the meat filling and it was absolutely excellent - a definite must try on your visit here. In contrast, the vegetable dish was our least favourite but still pretty good side to our meat heavy orders regardless. Service was attentive and prompt - nothing to really complain about. Atmosphere is great with the Temple just beside as well as the matching "Chinatown" decor in the restaurant. Would highly recommend a visit here if you're looking for great unpretentious fusion cuisine!
View on GoogleTried their braised and soup dish. The Yong tau foo was tasty . Mee sua with the big intestine was good closes to my favourite Taiwanese style. The lean braised pig trotter was tender and melt in your mouth the spongy layer of skin and fat was a killer have to stop myself from finishing all (kiasi later fail my cholesterols test 🤣) the big intestine was clean and infused with rich flavour. The chilli compliment all the dishes well. Their pricing and portion was reasonable. Overall their food was recommendable. The only discomfort was their serving person. I ordered 3 drinks for a table of two feeling thirsty. Order extra side when I find their braised item was to my liking. When they took both my orders both ask me you can finish ? I take it as out of good intention but very blunt. If their serving crew is more tactful and friendly I guess the whole dinning experience rating would score better.
View on GoogleI have to say this is definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve visited in Singapore this year! Not only because of their tasty food and innovative dish style, but also their reasonable pricing! You get the premium quality of food and taste, but you only pay slightly higher than food court, which is quite surprising! There is also no extra serving charge, which makes it one of the most worthy restaurants in Serangoon! We would definitely come again to try their other dishes!
