Ming Fa Fishball Noodles is a well-known stall in Chinatown Complex with roots going back to 1946. I tried their classic Fishball Noodles (dry) at around $4.50. The fishballs are springy and fresh-tasting, and the handmade noodles (mee pok/kway teow) are definitely the highlight for me—chewy and well coated with the sauce. The chilli adds a nice kick, though the overall taste can be slightly on the salty side. I also liked the mix of textures from the fishballs, meatballs, and fish cake. While the fishballs are their signature, I personally found the noodles to be the most enjoyable part of the dish. Overall, it’s a simple, affordable, old-school bowl of fishball noodles. Not mind-blowing, but satisfying if you’re in the area and want a solid hawker meal.

Impressive signboard says “since 1946”and a long queue, thus have to give it a try. $4.50 for Mee Pok spicy dry fishball noodles with extra sides of a long fish cake $1.20 and a handmade fish cake with chilli and vege $1.80. It was OK, just normal fishball noodles. (>人<;)

I've tried Mingfa at other branches and usually found them to be just okay, but I decided to give this stall a try since their roots trace back to Chinatown. I got the Dry Kway with Mixed Balls ($4.50), and this time, I was genuinely surprised by the quality of the noodles. This was my first time having their Kway Teow, and I was impressed by the thicker than usual kway teow and the generous sauce coating them evenly. Frankly, I think their noodles are actually the best part of the dish. While I know the fishballs are their signature, I always felt their meatballs (with ti poh) were better. Even comparing the frozen pack I bought previously to the fresh ones served here, the stall-served quality is always superior.

Ming Fa Fishball Noodles, located in Chinatown Complex, is one of the Singapore’s long-established brands for fishball noodles. Affordable and delicious, a bowl costs only $4. The meatballs are springy and bouncy, the handmade noodles are delightfully chewy — a perfect choice for lunch.
