A nice Vietnamese restaurant at Chinatown. Easy access from MRT station. Ordered a beef and pork leg rice noodles. The soup was flavorful, so much umami. Generous amount of herbs added different textures, which was good. I added chili and it enhanced the taste. Bahn mi looked good, so next time, I will try one of the bahn mi.
View on GoogleLong Phung Vietnamese Cuisine serves comforting and fairly authentic Vietnamese food, especially their pho and fried spring rolls. The broth is rich and flavorful, portions are generous, and the prices are still reasonable for Singapore standards. Service can be hit or miss during peak hours, but overall it’s a good spot if you’re craving a casual Vietnamese meal in Chinatown.
View on GoogleWoke up in Sai Gon, caught my Scoot to SIN before breakfast. Avoided the s$9 Cup of Noodles in flight then saw a Banh Mi dish (with Tater Tots??) at Changi for s$17.90 that the GF and I shared a chucke over as we frequently can dine a Dinner for 2 with a beer and a softdrink for that much in HCMC. So having that gnawing in the back of my mind I decided to exit one stop early on the MRT and grab a Banh Mi Bo as a mid afternoon meal. Authentic. Staff are Vietnamese and the Banh is that crispy, flaky style that some of the tourists here who have never been to Vietnam might mistake for "stale," but is the correct preparation. Not spicy but Chili sauce and diced / mashed red Chilis are provided so you can flavour to palate once it's on the table. Bia Saigon is served chilled with a chilled mug, always welcome on a Singapore afternoon and at s$6 it ain't 16,000 vnd, but what is in Singapore? At s$7.40 for the sandwich their pricing definitelt makes sense given the numerous Hostels on Smith Street and the younger Backpacker culture of this block. Sorry that I slept on this place for so long seeing as I move to Sai Gon in like 2 weeks... Solid A- if not an A especially given you can get a beer and a Banh Mi for about the cost of a BK double patty just up the road. The s$0.30 for a packet of nappies rather than just having Paper Napkins available is a choice...but can't hate on it as its s$0.30 and now you have toilet paper in the backpack for any public bathroom that in Singapore will charge you for anyway or worse, just won't have any at all...plus s$0.70 cheaper than buying off that old guy down the block who shouts at you "ONE DOLLA!!!" for a pack of nappies as you walk by. Religiously. Without fail. For the past 3 years I lived in this area. Dude's gotta be 102 by now...
View on GoogleThis has to be one of my favourite places for pho in Singapore. Try the rare beef pho, it's just sublime. Full of flavour and loads of beef too. Gets busy at peak times and can get a bit warm as windows and doors open. These guys have been around for a few years and have a loyal following in the Vietnamese community.
View on GoogleFood was authentic and not overly salty. Bun Rieu (crab noodle soup, $11.50) was flavourful and provided a generous serving. The noodles for the Pho Tai (beef pho, $10.50) were cooked perfectly and had a bouncy texture, while the meat was tender and fragrant, but there were too many beansprouts for me. The Ca Phe Sua Da (iced milk coffee, $4.50) was also really strong and aromatic, and the Da Chanh (iced lemon juice, $4.50) was decent. One downside was the restaurant's ambience, as it was situated along a noisy main road. There was also a miscommunication with the staff and we received the wrong drink initially, however, it is great there was no service charge. Overall a decent Vietnamese eatery in a convenient area :) Overall Rating: 3.46/5.00
