Absolutely amazing !!! I thought I step in a izakaya in Japan (minus the smokiness that’s typical in Japan), the atmosphere is lively and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Take advantage of the happy hour offering of alcoholic drinks ($6++) and 4pcs set of chunky yakitori skewers ($6++) fr 6-7pm. The grilled sun-dried Hokke and Unagi sushi rolls are wonderfully tasty, we round up the dinner with 3 kind blue fin tuna sashimi, all are fresh and literally melt in your mouth. For sure we will be back for more.

Loved our experience at their sister Izakaya next door & wanted to visit again but it was full. So they directed us here. Food was great, except the chutoro was a tad fishy, hence, 4 stars. Everything else was pretty much what you'd expect at a Japanese Izakaya. Will visit again but to Niningashi as they offer sushi, which Sazangaku don't.

Izakaya Sazangaku offers a cosy ambience with booth seatings for some privacy and to unwind after a busy day. The Potato Salad DX has ikura, crab meat and kanimiso. The potato salad was creamy yet not mushy with nice chunky bites. Also the Aburi Shimesba is a vinegar-cured mackerel that was torched in front of our eyes and has an interesting bold fishy and oily taste. It didn't felt cloyying but can get jelak so I would recommend to share. I would recommend the seasonal 8 Kinds Sashimi Platter for sharing that offers a great variety. It is changed up frequently with seasonal availability. The sashimi slices were thick and so fresh. While the Chutoro (medium fatty tuna) has a buttery richness and slightly sweet, the Otoro (extra fatty tuna) levelled it up with an almost melt-in-your-mouth creamy texture. It was also my first time trying Hotaru-ika (firefly squid) that was an unami bomb. Another thing is that this izakaya offers an extensive selection of sake from different regions, including premium variety for the sake enthusiasts.

From the same owners as Izakaya Niningashi just next door, these 2 Izakaya are quite alike but slightly different. Both boasts extensive sake selections and favourites such as the Chicken Namban. But what Sazangaku offers is more yakitori skewers and sashimi options, including sushi rolls. Otherwise, the standard of food and service is what one would expect if you are a regular next door. Fans of Niningashi should definitely drop by this new place.

Same wonderful lively atmosphere and service as their sister outlet next door. Sazangaku specializes in yakitori and it doesn't disappoint, even if it is a bit pricey. Well, what can you do, it's Singapore! Their otsumami selection was great and paired well with both beer and shochu-based drinks. I'd say skip their daifuku/mochi dessert. It's OK if you need a sweet fix but it's nothing special. Highly recommend if you'd like an easygoing night out with friends.
