Heng Ji Chicken Rice is a good choice if you are visiting Chinatown Complex and looking for a traditional Hainanese chicken rice experience. The steamed chicken was tender and juicy, with smooth skin and a light soy sauce dressing that didn't overpower the natural flavour. The rice was aromatic and flavourful, although on my visit it was slightly softer than I personally prefer. The chilli had a nice balance of spice and tanginess, and the sliced cucumbers complemented the meal well. Prices are reasonable at $3.80, and it is easy to see why there's often a queue, especially during lunch hours. While I wouldn't say it's the absolute best chicken rice in Singapore, it's a well-executed classic with a long heritage that continues to deliver consistent quality. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth trying.
View on GoogleIt’s objectively not the greatest chicken rice - but eating it brought back memories of simpler times. It’s a nostalgic taste that you’d get from your school canteen, not something you’d hanker for. Breast meat as slightly tough. And not that chicken rice is particularly healthy, but this tasted relatively clean. No queue though, which is a plus. Worth a try for old times’ sake.
View on GoogleI really like the chicken here. Quite tender. In pre COVID days , I would order half a chicken. But now I just order normal chicken rice with the prices gone up considerably. I ordered the large one at 4.80 SGD. But I still found that the rice was insufficient. Another con was that they didn't provide soup. But overall it was a nice stall that I would continue to support. They accept CDC voucher too
View on GoogleSituated in the hawker centre. Very delicious chicken rice, different from the Hainan style. They do not have a fried chicken version. The menu is transparent and extremely fair. A gem. Support and protect this business if you are in Chinatown, at all cost
View on GoogleReally smooth and velvety texture on the chicken. The rice was full of flavor. Absolutely recommend, it is close to the top chicken place.
